Best Song 2 Open a Prince Album

In ur opinion, which of Prince's songs has been the best 2 open an album?

In Prince's case it's always been a track that somehow signified the beginning of a PARTY! A song that kicks ass and gets the pulse racing; exciting!

What do u consider some of the best and why?

1999, Let's Go Crazy, TRC, which builds, and builds, and builds throughout the song.

The best opening tracks should set the tone of the album. Thats why I'd go with
Dirty Mind
1999
Lets Go Crazy
Eye No
Choas and Disorder
TRC

Each of these tracks give you an indication of whats to come, and each of them are brilliant in setting the tone of whats to come. It helps that every one is an excellent track on its own, regardless of what follows.

BTW - I think Prince has always been "old Skool" in his track ordering. Leaving the stand out tracks for opening and closing an album, as well as the middle 2 which used to open and close a "side". I think he's stuck to the "side" thing by sticking a couple of the best tracks plum in the middle, even though CDs obviously don't have em. Showing his age methinks.

bored I hate reading long posts like this. Congrats to those who could be arsed reading it all

...Not that boring, Dewmass! I agree with that "Old School" feel to Prince's album configurations. ... keep it coming!

I think "around the world in a day" but worth mentioning that the opening tracks to the two "acoustic" albums(the truth and ONA) seem to come out of oblivian from my CD player and just hang sublimely in the air...

The greatest of the great albums have the classic opening songs.

1.Let's Go Crazy: The theme song of the 80's
2.1999: No explanations needed.
3.Dirty Mind:

This won't be a popular choice (and I'm not a huge fan of the whole album) but I LOVE Can't Stop This Feeling I Got. I think it sets the tone nicely AND I love that little guitar solo at the end...always wondered if a longer version existed since I hate that early fade out

I've always thought Prince was particularly great at this part of album sequencing. Almost all of them are perfect, with two of his MOST effective intros, I think, being "Let's Go Crazy" and the overlooked "Eye Know," where he, for the first time, welcomes us to the New Power Generation.
BUT MY FAVORITE would be "Crystal Ball," which perfectly lays an entire soundscape, attitude and even narrative (to some degree) for something amazing to come! Unfortunately, while I'm a fan of the Crystal Ball album, I don't think the overall musical package -- pretty much quilted together with pieces from throughout his career -- does justice to the title song. That cut is more worthy of a concept album-type followup. I'd have LOVED hearing the project it was originally meant for.
On a slight tangent, I've always thought "Mia Bocca" was an excellent intro to Jill Jones' album.
(I think I'm just a Parade-era Claire Fischer junkie. I bask in that whole orchestrated sound.)

My faves are "Let's Go Crazy" (classic party starter!),
"Around The World In A Day" & "Sign O The Times" (cool-sounding & slightly different album openers, but still rocking!), "Come" of course, & "Thunder", "The Future" & "1999". I also have a soft spot 4 "Can't Stop This Feelin' I Got" (*u ain't the only one! wink

Lovelife*Lovesexy...always.
