I'm sorry, but that's kind of a ridiculous question to answer, seeing how both have over 30 years in the business, and have been favorites of quite a few generations since their careers up until today. I believe, as a "whole", the black community respect both artists at various levels, based on what era they started listening or were introduced to both artists music. Not to mention both having fans that have emulated them over the years and their music.
Unless you count all the MJ fans and Prince fans within that community then you'll know. Both artists are icons in the music world period, and respected by "many" within the black community I'm sure. They are both artists with their own, unique styles, so I see no reason why one would be more accepted than the other. Whenever they make an appearance at events, i.e., like award shows honoring black artists or events in that respect, they are pretty much well-respected. I never hear anyone asks if Jennifer Lopez is accepted more in the Hispanic community than Christine Aguilera or if Madonna is accepted more by the white community than Gwen Stefani. Keep in mind, that "everyone" has their individual taste(s) in artists and music, and just because you hear a person from a particular race say they don't like a particular artist or their music, does not mean that individual represents the thoughts/desires of that particular race. It's really easy to note that Black people are not "monolithic"; they are human, individuals, live different lifestyles, etc., just like individuals from other race groups. They both get looked apon funky for there ecsentric looks or actions...
but it allways comes down to the music speaks for itself... They are both some of the most highly respected indivisuals musicaly in the black or white community,.... But on a personal image level...Prince is looked at alot better. Alot of people think prince is weird, cocky, unckle tom, or even gay (not that it's a bad thing) wich is all a big no no in the black comunitty.... M.j. Is looked at as something they want to keep in the closet.... But thats on a so called personal level of charicter....imo [Edited 6/14/09 20:15pm]

Hard to really answer.
Prince in spite of his recent issues and religous views, has pretty much been viewed the same from day one. ie Great musician, makes killer slow jams, he's sexy, he's gay (yeah peeps still think this), he's eccentric, he's too cool, he's weird as fuck, he's a genius, etc... Prior to the child molester allegations... many of those same things were said about MJ... and over all... he and his music was more liked and accepted. MJ just came across like a big kid... but harmless. Post kiddie issues... Prince was still Prince. MJ became the grown up with serious psychological issues from a majorly dysfunctional family, which included an unhealthy fascination with kids. So right now... Prince is more accepted.

Oh for crying out loud!
According to their birth records, they are both Black! Accepted for who they are as individuals, for what they've contributed to the world of music! Period! End of discussion! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I think after Michael's numerous chester allegations, Prince would be more excepted by any group of people on the planet earth. "Prince doesn't have verbal diarrhea, he has studio diarrhea...." Allen Leeds

J-lo, just for the record. Christina Aguilera is white, right? But from a Hispanic point of view I would have to say that, molester allegations aside, Michael Jackson is still more accepted. Latinos got that funky bone too and if someone plays "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" at a quincenera or wedding you can bet the dance floor will be packed. Throw on "Kiss", though, and the dance floor clears out immediately.

I don't think Prince could ever be more accepted in the black community or any other community because Michael has been famous since he was 8 years old.
I don't think it's fair to compare their popularity because one had over a decade head start. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I honestly don't know, ask black people, like everyone else they will all have different answers, its hard to judge how much Prince is liked by one particular ethnic group unless u r willing 2 research. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Hate to say it, but who sold more records within the community? Part of acceptance only, but an important part nonetheless.
Mike is loved more by all races and creeds in my opinion, being the same age, i've always thought how interesting it'd have been if P was picked up by Motown as a kid.

Prince & Michael Jackson actually transends this
They are larger than that musically Michael Jackson as an artist historically is much more at the foundation development of " black music " Michael has been doing this since a kid(world wide) Prince started in the late 70's at a later date. Even when Michaels child molestation allegations came out "the Black community" stood on Michaels side, "blacks individually" had their own opinions

At various times, both of them had image problems with the black community.Their talent has never been in question,it's all the other silly "distractions" that sometimes worked against them.I remember Rosie Gaines talking about how,in the early 90s,Prince was concerned that, increasingly, the black community didn't understand him. This was around the time when he added Tony M. to his band.
As for MJ....well,you know about his problems and how he is perceived by the black community.

Funny you should ask. The annual vote on Prince/MJ just so happens to be on the agenda for this month's meeting. Results are being tallied and should be ready by July 1.

On a program on tv this week they said she is as they were discussing latino/latina artists and her, J-Lo, Mark Antony and others were named.

Michael is connected to Diana Ross, Motown, even though he and Prince are the same age, Mike started out at a very young age in the public eye. a regular on American Bandstand, Jackson 5 cartoon, concerts and tours and guest appearances, so I think from this standpoint, Michael is in public knowledge and most people of a wide social/economic background race and age are fans or familiars of Michael in a way I don't think Prince is

Yahoo does not answer for the entire MJ/Prince fan communities. Not everyone that has grown up with both MJ/Prince's music logs onto yahoo or any other website. They are both respected artists within the Black community, it's more about their music, not their personal lives. [Edited 6/15/09 7:13am]
