I can't watch this movie. I love Prince, but I think this movie is a stinker!

the B&W was beautiful. that was the only thing movie critics liked about it back in the day. aw Princey with his marcel waves and his tight little caboose. yep those were the days. he and jerome were the bestus back then.

I love "Under The Cherry Moon". I think i'm probably one of the few people who prefers it to "Purple Rain". I know it's a silly movie, but it was entertaining to me. I really enjoyed it. And yes the cinemetography is beautiful! I loved the B&W look.

You could tell this would be a really colorful movie if in color
because the black and white was so lively

the video as well all works of art

It would have been much better and received better coming off of the Purple Reign
If he had the band in background scenes
I think there were like 3 or 4 musical scenes where he is playing piano, those could have been scenes including the band even if just for the visible and maybe seeing them interact with the scene in background.

The Girls & Boys video should have been the movie G&B scene

I just recently saw it for the first time last week! (along with graffiti bridge)

And yeah it's pretty bad. The plot is incoherent and the characters make no sense.

Some of the camera work is nice and the music's great. I enjoy some of the dialogue's inexplicable forays into ebonics and the similarly inexplicable homo-erotic tension between Prince and Jerome.

Otherwise a mess. A total, hot mess.

Would love 2 c the unrated version of that!

I wish Prince would do some suspense. Maybe a murder mystery. Something along the lines of Brian De Palma.

That movie would be a hit if it was released today. It has taken a beating for more than 20 years. With all the problems, it is still a good movie in my book.

The plot is rather simple - I never understood the criticism that it was incomprehendable. THe performances are that bad either in my opinion - Jerome should never do a dramatic scene though. It is campy and over the top and it is meant to be - I think that is lost of alot of people who expect it to be gritty and realistic like Purple Rain.

I wish Prince would make another film - even if it is his own independent production and goes straight to video.

I remember when it came out on video, I went to my local video store (this is the 80's mind you) and walked up to the counter video in hand. The two guys behind the counter start laughing, I asked what was the matter, they said that all of the employees had a bet that Under the Cherry Moon would never be rented.

The band wouldnt fit into teh plot whatsoever. Tricky and Christopher were supposed to b alone in the South of France and didnt have money for a entire band. I like that scene where's he drunk and goes to Mary's house by sneaking in through the window and it turns out to be Mary's mom.

If you don't take it too seriously, as if it's supposed to be some sort of grand dramatic/artistic statement, UTCM is a lot of fun. I actually found Prince's acting superior to Purple Rain. It works well as a light comedy, though Christopher Tracey's death is a bit much if you look it at it that way.

I recently watched UTCM and Purple Rain. I love, love, love PR, but, admittedly, the story development is paper thin and the acting is mediocre to bad. But, it's just one of those iconic films, and iconic moments for Prince fans. It just doesn't matter. It entertains me and gets me excited every time.

Prince was so romantic in this movie it was sickening. He died like a bitch taking a nap.

yeah l have watched tht film many times over and over its one of my favs of him on tht film .... very good movie ...
tht film makes u feel very emotional and arousal... in other words turned on...
such a beautiful film he did,,,,,he was such a romantic at heart too...lovable..
but tearjerkin at the end when he got shot.....awwww ...what a real choke up..made me cry...
it would be so great if he did another good movie like tht...l think he should
too...he could do one abt 2 people who are totally in love but get interuppted in their best moments ...when they are meant 2 be...MAYBE abt himself looking for his truelove...

That is the reason they are "former" friends.

It is a god-awful film with a good score. There's a reason why Prince fell on the floor and screamed that he hated the film. (See POSSESSED by Alex Hahn)
