The Minneapolis Sound What song, to you, most succinctly represents what is the "Minneapolis Sound"?
or album? I certainly don't think MPLSOUND has that honor. If anything, I think it'd be one of the jams on 1999, like DMSR or Automatic. What do you think?

Good choices but for me it is the classic trinity of: 1999 What Time is it? Vanity 6 Those three in a nutshell are the definitive Minneapolis Sound, at least for me. "Always blessings, never losses......"

I wouldn't classify that whole album. To me, the MPLSOUND encompasses so many different elements. It's not just Prince. People credit him for establishing one, but Jam and Lewis are just as instrumental. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

For me, these three albums pretty much encompass the whole range of the "Minneapolis Sound" (Rock to Funk to new wave to Pop to experimental to etc...) Yeah Jam and Lewis, Andre Cymone, Jesse Johnson, etc...had huge parts in the "sound" but it was something that Prince first established and took it to the next level with these theree albums and following tour. I think that set everything else up (Purple Rain, various solo projects, etc....) "Always blessings, never losses......"

...i'ma tell u one song that i know for sure..4 sure is Minneapolis-sound...prince very 1st song...MACHINE..back with grand central/champagne..even though most of the music was instrumentals!!...but that was the Minneapolis-sound..
..lets talk about the 1st song..MACHINE..prince was 13yrs old when he composed that song..the content of the song reflected the image of intrigue..that was flowing in an adolescent..about masturbation.... ...it was like a premonition..the song had sexual connotations...his beats made u wanna self-L-O-V-E urself ..prince:"I realized that wit music i could express everything i felt in dat moment:SOLITUDE..PUBERTY..and..SEX.".... ..mzsexybaby'TAKE OFF UR CLOTHES..319..BET U GOT A BODY..LET ME C..LET ME PET U..319..CAN I SAY IT BABY?' ..She's Just A Baby..but she's my lady..my loveR..my only friend!..true love that will last!..PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND..WHAT SHE SEES IN AN OLDER MAN..they never stop 2 think that maybe i'm what she's looking 4..THEY NEVER TAKE THE TIME..2 look in her mind

i dont know, i didn't create it, only Prince knows. But, if i were to guess, DMSR, 1999, Dance 4 Me, Stroke, Chocolate Box, Some Timbaland work, Neptunes work, Nasty Girl, Future Baby Mamma, Black Sweat, Wild n Loose, Ol' School Company.....would be among my picks. ..ok..prince's creative auto-efficiency can be compared 2 those of todd rundGren or mike oldfield...
...prince developed his IMAGINATION very-well.. ..Minneapolis was triumphant in the 60's and 70's..wit bands like CROW and the classics THE TRASHMEN wit "surfin' bird" or THE CASTAWAYS wit "liar liar"...BUT NOT UNTIL PRINCE REACHED THE THRONE..dat music was 4gotten by us all... ...prince and his "court" have "washed" the face of music...CONSTRUCTING Minneapolis-sound.. ..mzsexybaby'IT-ALL-COMES-OUT-IN-THE-WASH' [Edited 6/10/09 10:52am] ..She's Just A Baby..but she's my lady..my loveR..my only friend!..true love that will last!..PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND..WHAT SHE SEES IN AN OLDER MAN..they never stop 2 think that maybe i'm what she's looking 4..THEY NEVER TAKE THE TIME..2 look in her mind

From the "Dirty Mind" through "1999" albums. Oops, I forgot "Purple Rain" which is also the Minneapolis Sound.

Can you elaborate on why you say that? I ask because, to me, it doesn't have the "classic" Prince sound. To me, Prince didn't really come into his own sound (for lack of a better word) until he did 1999. I would think something like "DMSR", "1999" or "Lady Cab Driver" could classified the essence of the MPSOUND. [Edited 6/11/09 23:26pm] **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
