Graffti Bridge:The song.

I listened to the graffti bridge soundtrack for the first time in a really long time the other day. I remember being 13 and liking the song graffti bridge when it first came out but also thought it was a bit syrupy. Listening to it at 32 I think it is a beautiful, well crafted song. The lyrics are still a bit syrupy, but overall I think it is great. What do all of you think?

The song is sweet, although it truly is what every heart yearns for.

Especially the lyrics...The Love of A Girl...The Love of A Boy...It is so singular and devoted...I respect that.

The song also shows how versatile Prince can be for a "Familiy Oriented," sound. cool

GRAFFITI BRIDGE. Whilst musically it is a richly textured song, I feel the lyrical melody just fails to do it for me. And although you can hear how Prince would take what he learnt in the arrangement of this and apply it to the opuslike 3 chains of gold, I just feel it doesn’t have the same power the latter does, and feels a bit overblown.

It's the worst song on the album.

I agree, it's like he scooped it out of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "loo".

Absolutly - the album contains great songes, less interesting ones etc... but there's only one I really really can't stand and it's the title song. The most cheeziest, dull, sugary song ever.

Its a real come down after the brilliance of "Still would stand all time". This song is too cutesy and saccharine for my liking. Its got lousy lyrics, a silly chorus and it just sounds way below the works of this genius, easily one of the many fillers on Graffiti Bridge (Bleech) hamster2
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

One of his worst songs ever. And I like Graffiti Bridge (the album), but this is absolutely horrible. Thank god he didn't put it right in the middle of the album which would make it more difficult to skip...razz

I actually rather like the 'Glam Slam'-ish guitar in this song, but I can see where y'all are coming from.

But worst song on the album? Surely, Tevin Campbell takes that cake! smile

I don't hate this song like so many of you do (lol) but I think it's a weak title track. He needed a stronger, more powerful song to close the film with.

It's true, I do!

But then, I worked in musical theatre for ten years, so I might have a thicker skin against this type of stuff than some of you. smile

I think it's a good song. I've never felt that it's syrupy. But there are many other better songs on the album like Still Would Stand All Time, The Question Of U and Joy In Repetition.

I like the title track, but you have an importnant point, the album should have had a stronger title track.
