"Thieves In The Temple" (live)

How awesome is this song live. The live version of "Thieves In The Temple" from the Diamond and Pearl tour kicks so much ass. The song's melody, singing and playing is so plaintive. And Rosie Gaines does such a good job backing him vocally. I wonder why this song isn't part of his live reportorie. I can't think of the last tour or occasion this tune was played live. His lower to mid-range voice overall has been underutilized for much of his career. Thoughts?

I have NEVER liked Rosie Gains backing Prince, even on Diamonds & Pearls.
It always sounds like she's 'joking' when she sings.
The 1999-The New Master parts with her singing irritate or amuse me.

I still can't stop laughing at the part where she sings "I came to paaaaahhhttay" from one of the mixes, and she sounds all constipated. falloff

I disagree. I think she does a far better job than the Twinz. she adds the "Soul For You" sound needed in alot of the soul-sounding songs..

To me she sounds like she sings in the gospel style of Mavis Staples, and that's her redeeming quality to me. But the voice just irks me. It's like Mavis on meth with a frog in her throat.

i love the song and the extended version is awesome. don't like the
live versions that much tho. mainly because rosie's warbling horrible
vocals are all over it.

what i like about it live visually, is that he's wearing the chain hat and when he goes off on his acoustic guitar
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
