My only criticism is he needs to pay some backup singers!! I noticed this on the ONA-Live disk too. The backup is always WEAK, I know Rhonda tries (& Sheila pitched in tonight), but shit could be much stronger w/ some voices really going at it back there... nod

I agree with you on that but the music is so top notch right now, we can practically forgive him for that. At least I have.

DParkerWasCool, you've said just about everything in two posts that I was thinking. And it's amazing how some folks can be so uptight about the same things he's been singing about for years, yet not uptight about the explicit content of his previous music. The fact that they know he's hobknobbing with JW's is where the latest stigma comes into play.

He made the most of the short time Leno's producer's gave him in that spot. It was damn sweeet.

Thank you, and you're absolutely right. I guess some people need something to gripe about. After I saw Leno I couldn't wait to read the reviews because I thought that most people like myself appreciated what Prince and the NPG accomplished in the performance. Yet I forgot what we were dealing with no it alls. However a few complainers cannot spoil what was otherwise "A Beautiful Night"

I just looked at the performance again and I heard Jay say that the guy in Chicago took up Prince's time, so that can explain why Prince's time on TV was so short.

i don't understand people bitching about "the everlasting now"... the song fucking jams... i'm convinced that the only people who hate this song and find it preachy etc are some of the negative prince fans that frequent here, as i have yet to find anyone else who dislikes this song... for several months, it was one of the most requested songs on my funk show...

it is the only prince song that my buddy joe likes... he even played during his wedding reception... he said it had the place rocking... i played it at my wedding reception... it had more people bumping on the dance floor than any song we played that (and we did play some bumping ass shit)... i've never been playing that song and had someone come up to me and say, "man, that song is shitty and blah blah blay"...

shrug...

i don't know...

some people need to wake up and recognize...

everybody, jump up and down... booty!...

I thought it was great. He really 'turned it on' for the cameras. . .when was the last time you saw him smile like that? I think Everlasting Now is HOT live, and Prince was groovin'. . .Leno bowing at the end. . .no complaints, considering the length limitation.

I agree, seeing the old Controversy guitar all shined up and back in action was wonderful. Did anyone else think it was really funny to see the difference in size between Prince and Jay when they hugged?

it's not that the music isn't jammin', it is.

BUT, and this is crucial, when i hear prince singing about 'accurate knowledge of christ and the father' i know he isn't just playing for the crowd, he's witnessing TO the crowd. he did the same thing at the celebration, which turned me OFF his music for the first time ever.

i might be able to stomach this if not for the fact there's no way anyone, including prince, will ever be able to convince me that any accuracy accompanies the teachings of charles taz russell, that faker and liar who founded the jehovah witness 'faith'. the thing speaks for itself. this is a cult by definition, and one which brutally shuns its non-conformist members. a cult which believes only 144,000 people will attain heaven. utter crap, imho.

i miss the days of non-denominational religious prince. yes he used to preach but he used to be more open minded. it used to be he was gentle about his messages and now he crams it down our throats. hard to groove on a jam when he's singing 'ain't no room to disagree' about men and women's roles.

so i've reached the point where i just don't enjoy his music or watching him perform as much as i used to because to me it seems like he's now using the stage as a pulpit (JWs are REQUIRED to witness) and i in NO way dig his current message of exclusivity and rigid conformity to a faith based on lies.

yeah i love his music (mostly) and yes i do believe in god, but not the god the JWs are advertising. it makes me truly sad to see prince in this place. go ahead and flame me (you know you will smile for my opinion

this is merely my own personal reaction to his current artistic direction.

the musicanship was tight but I thought the song&performance was just kind of there IMHO.if it wasn't for Shelia E. i might have fallen asleep.glad too see Eric Leeds back though.I'm glad Prince can play the Groove too MJ's "Burn this Disco Out" but that doesn't make it a Great song as it's a tight Groove."Ballad of Dorothy Parker" from Last Year was far Better of the 3 Performances He has done on Leno IMHO.

The lowest point in Prince's career will be the highest points in a lot of others.

When you have music coming from "gangstas","slackers",& "satan wannabes" it was very refreshing seeing Prince funk it up.The way it should be done !

Don't let MTV or BET tell you what is "good" music !
Prince is not going to be controlled by what "we" think.
He is working for a greater master than you realized.

Listen to the words of the song Everlasting Now.He is singing about himself!

"No longer ruled by the ways of men, he looked for the Kingdom deep within. That's when the drums in his head began to pound !"

Anyone that makes a comparison between this song and "Burn This Disco Out" obviously has no comparison skills whatsoever. You would have gone to sleep, big deal...who are you anyway. Your screen name should be Mr. Opinionated, you make some of the most ignorant comparisons I have ever read. By the way why must you compare everything. Most of your posts are teena marie vs. britney spears, led zepplin v. rolling stones, earth wind and fire v. gap band...whats up with all the comparisons??

i hear what you're saying and i do see that prince has chosen a path that really works for him and i'm glad. i'm also sorry for my unfair remarks about the JW faith. a lot of religions are wacky, come to think of it and no one eprson should condemn another person's belief system.

it's just . . . his faith seems such a huge part of his music now that sometimes i find myself not embracing the music because he's singing words that i outright disagree with. but, i'm glad he's found what works for him

I know, however some people on this site irk me. They honestly have nothing to gripe about, however they have to find SOMETHING, some flaw the rest of us must have somehow overlooked. It amazes me how the most opinionated people have never contributed anything to society. They just compare, contrast, and state how it could have been better if someone else had done this with a talent that the "critic" doesn't possess. And how do I know this critic doesn't possess this talent, because they post on everyone else's site about other people's abilities. If you are so good and could do better I would love to see you on Leno, but then again if you were a musician I probably would have seen or heard of you somewhere other than a message board. I have no problem with constructive critiques or discussion, but I do have a problem with people that want to nit-pick about something they couldn't do if their lives depended on it.IMHO
