Do you wish Prince had never released songs like Head? Okay... let's talk for a second.
I'm a fan just like all of you, and when I was 14, I used to love listening digging out old taboo Prince songs like Let's Pretend We're Married, Head, Lady Cab Driver, etc. But don't you think they're a bit embarrassing? Seriously... who overtly sings crap like this?? Not to mention wack songs like Sister, Annie Christian, and Jack U Off. Don't get me wrong... the music is good, and the songs are catchy, but the lyrical content is a bit absurd! I just think that after the Prince self-titled album, something just snapped in the man's brain and he went all ultra smut! Let's be honest... I was a kid and liked that stuff. That music IMHO was extremely immature and juvenile. True, it was exciting to listen to, but as I look back, I can't imagine becoming a fan of Prince's music had I been in my mid-20's during that Dirty Mind - Controversy era... unless I was some kind of a freak! It made me laugh when I saw the Tavis Smiley interview and Tavis said "Your music is all about love." I was like... "What planet does Tavis live on?" True, Prince has some amazing love songs, but it's not like he hasn't had an era that to me, would be damned embarrasing... bikini drawls and prancing around like a little baby deer on stage. DO NOT GET ME WRONG... I'm a fan, but I just wonder if some of you are older than 37... maybe in your 50's, and were hardcore fans of Prince during that freakish era. I also wonder if those risque songs from back in the day are something that deep down inside embarrasses Prince. Aside from all of the Jehovah's Witness stuff, I also wonder if Prince 2009 would be a fan of Prince 1979. Kind regards The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

No, no, no, no. Just no.
There's nothing embarrassing about those songs or times. Now, going on TV and saying the government should be based on prophecy or some nonsense like that...that's embarrassing. But Head? That's just good stuff.

I'm immature, so I still think they are funny and great! .

Mmmm, Im not embarassed by them, and Im middle aged now, and been listening to them since I was a teenager. Its just like the bad hair style you had as a teenager- you wouldnt do it now, but youre not embarassed you did it in the first place.
I still love these songs, I listen without cringeing My name is Naz!!! and I have a windmill where my brain is supposed to be.....

Not at all. Some of his best songs have nasty or "raunchy" lyrics and/or inferrences.
Obviously our man is hasnt lost his "dirty mind" he just isnt so blatant about things, but listen to "The One U Wanna C" and he is talking about coming like thunder. Can't change who he is- one hot sexual thang!

So you're saying that after you pass about 37, you don't like HEAD any more?
Tell that to the rest of the male population.

Difficult to express 4 me... if "head" never was, it´s like saying Prince never was what he was and what he is ! Everything are stages of life Forever in my life...

The best thing about rock n roll (using that as a broad term for music in general) is the rebellion of it. So him singing about going down on a girl, or a girl going down on him, or fucking the taste out of some chick's mouth, or enjoying the V of her love, or a vulva splash on his tower....LOVE it. Just as much as I loved hearing him address situations, like "Hello", "Billy Jack Bitch", "I Hate U", etc.
Embarrassing now? Well if he did it live, then yes. But going back to a 20 year old so boldly singing about sex at the beginning of the Reagan years? HELL TO THE YEAH!

While I don't play them in mixed company, they don't personally embarrass me.
Resolution. Life O' The Party. Undisputed. Freaks On This Side. now THAT shit is embarrassing.

Tell that to the rest of the male population. I wasn't even thinking along those lines! I am a mom of a seven year old girl. I love listening to those songs when I am alone. I love them because they are hugely witty. Unfortunately they are truely catchy and I don't want my daughter singing along. Jack-U-Off is hilarious just because the melody is so sweet and the lyrics so raunchy. Problem, his clean songs are not as fun, witty or upbeat. My daughter hates the ballads. She'd love little red corvette if she heard it. So where is the wit? Does it only come out when he's talkin dirty? He loves Sly: My daughter loves Sly so we can listen to that. Why can't Prince do clean but cool shit? I can only listen to so much princess songs!!! At her school they listen to RHIANNA that stuff is suggestive as hell, A seven year old isn't even going to know what she's singing but a perv listening to her will. Sorry for the rant but this happens to be my pet peeve. Why can't they make music and movies that you can enjoy and your kids can too? I feel like I'm 80!!! Remember Nat King Cole. Bette Davis and a zillion others? At least she's past the wiggles stage. O.K. I'll stop now.

That's what made Prince, Prince. I wouldn't want him to be any different. I wish that we all could stay young and be rebels but alas we all get old. Prince is now doing Prince in an different way. No longer is he a brash rebel, he now is a grand master at his craft. I like to think as listeners of his music, we also mastered listening to the music itself. But seriously can you really see a 51 year old man strutting around in thongs. Maybe in private for some people but it's not a good look in the public eye. __________________________________________________

Head, Let's Pretend We're Married and Lady Cab Driver is some of his best work. I played them at parties when I was young and my friends loved them, too.
I'd still play them at parties, only I don't really have parties anymore. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Every song had it's birth and still has it's time and place to be played.
Some songs will mean just as much 100 years from now as they did when we first heard them. Other songs become dated and when they are played seem to bring back another time in our lives. I believe that songs are subjective. Even listening to the same songs can be different when listening to them with different people. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

ahh ahh depending on what age Prince or the Kid was when Sister was showing him where it's supposed to go The lyrics of this song sound like something that happened over a time period Probably a boy first time too

All it is is about sex. Not to mention wack songs like Sister, Annie Christian, and Jack U Off. Wack? You can't be a fan of Prince, not at all, and you probably need to do a study on New Wave subculture to really understand and appreciate Dirty Mind & Controversy. These albums were combination New Wave & Rock, very in your face rebellious music Don't get me wrong... the music is good, and the songs are catchy, but the lyrical content is a bit absurd! You must be a woman. The reason we hetrosexual men could even relate to a guy in make-up and high heels and feel comfortable while Prince pranced around singing I wanna be your lover is that we knew his Royal Badness had a similar side as we do...songs like Head, Let's pretend we're Married,Bambi, Irristable Bitch, Erotic City, Get Off,Peach, Mad Sex,and Poom Poom, are the reasons why us hetro males can comfortable pump out our chests and say yeah you funking right I'm a Prince fan and if you don't like it...tough, I'm going to grab your girlfriend and make her dance in front of my headlights on a hot summer night nude!
Same reason you'll never hear any of us fully commit to being a die-hard Michael Jackson fan...It's a testosterone thing.

I disagree! I became a fan after hearing When Doves Cry for the first time. I didn't need Head and Sister. Personally, I'm a fan DESPITE those songs. It just stuns me that a man could be so overt and brash. Even more recently, I LOVE the song Come. And that's one of Prince's RAUNCHIEST! We all have a little bit of a closet "freak" in us, but I just can't imagine singing a song where I'm going off in a psycho way yelling and screaming about "coming" for all my friends and family to hear. Now that's what makes Prince, Prince. But I just believe that some of his subject matter and content was WAY WAY out there. He's an artist, but I contend that the early smut wasn't art. I'll even go as far as to say that the song "Come" is art. It's musically fascinating in my opinion. But there's nothing "artful" about Sister, or "wanting to fuck the taste out of your mouth". I relate... but I wouldn't overtly relate... or write a damn song about it!! lol The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

That's not my point. True, I remember them, but that doesn't mean I look back on them the same way that I look back on songs like Adore and When Doves Cry. I'm simply saying that I would think that they'd be embarrassing songs for Prince to look back on. This is the same person that many people proclaim a genius. I agree.
