How about thinking he won't change the name. MPLSOUND is so one sided, and he wants to be UNstuck to the Minneapolis sound of the 80's (ergo the lack of a Revolution reunion, which Wendy and Lisa said he thinks "is a bad idea", and that he "doesn't believe in Matt, doesn't believe in Mark, doesn't believe in Bobby, doesn't believe in us").
It'll be New Power Generation. He's branded it. It's his record label, his band, and, as he stated, a universal covering for all fans (or "fams" back in THOSE days). Even at the end of "Gold" and one song on NPS (at least) he said "you are now a part of the New Power Generation".

But whatever the name of his band is, I don't care. Just hope he's showing up with one for some gigs in Montreux in july !!!

Prince & The Musical Kings
Prince & The Brethern Prince & The Paupers Prince & Harmony [Edited 6/11/09 15:40pm] Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

joyinrepetition said: He should title his band "Prince and the Hired Guns" since he's using a revolving band rotation. Or he can go all out, incorporate the Time and have:
5 drummers Sheila E., Cora, Mike B., John Blackwell and Jellybean Johnson 5 Keyboard players Renato Neto, Morris Hayes, Jimmy Jam, Monte Moir and Dr. Fink 5 Bass players C.C. Dunham, Rhonda, Larry G.(minus the preaching),and Terry Lewis, Levi, and Sonny T. 4 Guitar players Prince, Mike Scott, Kat Dyson, and Miko 2 Horns Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss and have all of them on the stage at the same time to make such a wonderful noise. naw Coras time is done (and she ain't that pretty, sorry) Bobby Z & Lisa for the serious compositions plus she is piano synth(gotta have that for the Minneapolis Sound but that Fink too) Levi ain't coming back lol I don't think there is any love there Andre Cymone & BrownMark Guitar gotta add Dez & Wendy Horns gotta bring back Eddie M especially for when Eric plays flute But whatever he does, he better wake up cause his name is on the line, to iffy with his career. Most of his band choice, songs career direction isn't cutting it [Edited 6/11/09 17:19pm]

I think Prince & The Witnesses sounds cool.
But I would prefer Prince & The New Revolution, featuring Michael B., Sonny T., Wendy, Lisa & Dr. Fink. And the lyrics on their first CD would deal with breaking free of the Jehova's Witnesses and embracing some good old fashioned rock and roll sexuality. Man, Prince should have changed the name of his band in 1996 once he became "free." & there should have been 2 more band names after that, IMO. NPG is old and it's well past time for a new band name. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Too bad he dropped the coolest name he ever had. The Revolution was a cool band name. I think he lost a lot of fans after dropping that name.

naw ain't nothing cooler than being in a concert setting and hearing the chant N P ..G in the muthafucking house!!! man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The same could be said about his very name. Or the symbol. Or the name of his recording studio. I'd be thrilled if he gave up Paisley Park as his own private recording studio. It's what killed his sound.

Untrue. It's still The New Power Generation. He's said it'll always be referred to with that name. But if people look at it, the GROUP name was always "PRINCE" at least. PRINCE encompassed every band member. The joy was just in finding out who "PRINCE" was made up of for the present album (on tour).
