Best album between 1989 and 1992?

Batman, Graffiti Bridge, D&P, Symbol...which one out of these is your favorite?

yeah, it's an odd and narrow topic, but i'm bored. please indulge me.

I'll be the only one to say Graffiti Bridge. The album is as under-rated as Diamonds And Pearls is over-rated.

Tracks I Love:
Release It
The Question Of U
Elephants & Flowers
We Can Funk
Joy In Repetition
Love Machine

Tracks I Like:
Can't Stop This Feeling I Got
New Power Generation
Round And Round
Tick, Tick, Bang
Thieves In The Temple
Melody Cool
Still Would Stand All Time

Tracks I Think are "Okay":
Shake!
The Latest Fashion
New Power Generation (Pt. II)

The Only Track I Dislike:
Graffiti Bridge

By contrast, my feelings of D&P...

Tracks I Love:
Willing And Able
Gett Off
Money Don't Matter 2 Night

Tracks I Like:
Cream
Strollin'
Live 4 Love

Tracks I Think are "Okay":
Thunder
Daddy Pop
Walk Don't Walk
Push
Insatiable

Tracks I Dislike:
Diamonds And Pearls
Jughead

To put the 4 LPs you mention in order from my favorite to least:
GB, prince, Batman, D&P

In my not-so-humble opinion....
biggrin

GB. it's got "the question of U" and "joy in repetition"

bow

as an album, D&P is probably the best, it's not too long,
it's got a theme, a vibe and defines an era in p's music.

i don't like the album that much. there are only 5 or so
real good song on it and the rest is bleh. but as i said,
as an album it beats GB since GB is kind of like he threw
everything he had at the wall to see what would stick and
then he wrote some new songs to go in the gaps, lol.

prince is nice too but also too long with too much filler.
batman feels half/half as well. 6 great tracks and some
that you can't listen to anymore these days.

come to think of it, this is a very hard question lol

all of those albums are imo heavily flawed, despite their
commercial success. but also, all of them contain at least
1 or 2 all time prince classics.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

probably Batman, then prince, then GB, then D&P.

D&P could actually be the top one if it would lose a few tracks. prince as well.

Definitely Diamonds and Pearls, mainly because of Thunder, Live 4 Love(both amazing songs) and, the main reason: Rosie Gaines. Of all the singers he's worked with, no one's matched her vocals AND sounds great singing along side him.
I would love to hear what the 0+> album sounded like before he replaced her vocals with his own.

With Prince songs only, Graffiti Bridge gets my vote.

Otherwise it's prince.

I love, love, love GB. It's like Lovesexy, Part Deux. I refuse to let a couple bad Time songs cloud the brilliance of this amazing album.

For me prince is easily the best. Sure, there are a couple of bum tracks but overall it is the best. Lots of variety on there too.

Next would be Batman.

I guess I'd say that Graffiti Bridge and Diamonds and Pearls tie for last. Graffiti Bridge probably has better songs but Diamonds and Pearls has a better sound.

I was just reevaluating O+-> and I think it may be the worst Prince album ever for various reasons. 89-92 was a tough time to be a fan. Maybe D&P as it seems to have the best "attitude" of those years.

That's a bold claim that it may be the worst ever. Most would agree that it's not even the worst out of that era.

How did you come to your conclusion?

Cream and D&P were huge hits (Gett Off was a minor hit too) but otherwise that album has more filler than any of the other ones in this era.

I thoroughly enjoy all of D&P, but Tony M. seems much more prevalent which is why it loses points for me.

prince, then Diamonds & Pearls. Actually D&P contains more songs that are really good like Cream, Get Off and Money Don't Matter Tonight. prince has Damn U that is a masterpiece, but prince is much more impressive as a whole and more creative.

I would have to say GR becuase of tony m's cringing rapping that brought down D&P and the prince album.... I mean tracks such as " the question of U"( an outtake from1985... it sounds like the kissin cousin to the song "under the cheery moon)....."elephants and flowers",
