Does this count as one cd or as 3 cds?
So, did he shift 340.000 units, or just 113.000 units (1/3 of this)? What are the rules?

This is this weeks chart from the Billboard 200.
Prince sold more than 340000 copies. For the certification of a platinum or gold record from the RIAA, this means Lotusflow3r is now a platinum album (3x 340000, more than 100000 records). I don`t consider it a flop. If you compare the other artists sales, it`s quite good. Not a huge success, but it`s doing quite well for an album without a hit single or no songs at radio or videos on music tv. And we don`t know about how many people paid 77 $ for the lotusflower site and downloaded the albums there. One thing i don`t know: in other countries...the imported Lotusflow3r CDS..are they bought from target and count as sold in the US???? [Edited 6/5/09 10:23am]

really annoyed. He has got his $ and cleared off, regardless of your thoughts on the quality of the music this could easily sell much more. He's shifted 340k units through 1 chain store with comparatively little promotion / effort. Has P really reduced his 'art' to a means of making a quick $?. Oh well, add it to the list of projects that had a tonee of potential but were not well executed.

I think he truly does not care about CD sales... Concerts is where the money is at...

Prince has never cared about the charts. Ever since he hit the web to sell his music his thing has been putting the music in the hands of the people who wantr it. If you think that a record label has that concern then give Q-tip and Van Hunt a call about the project they had shelved for whatever non musical reasoning. If it's all about getting the music into the hands of those who want it then Prince is number one everytime he drops a cd because anyone who wants it can get it via the web, the paper , at Target or sometimes the wreckastow! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I hate that chart stuff. If Prince doesn't care why do you? [Edited 6/8/09 6:32am]

If Prince doesn't care about charts, why did he talk about sales of the album being missing from the count during Tavis' interview? Tavis was basically complimenting Prince's ability to hit no.2 on the charts without the help of a major label. Prince totally shrugged off the compliment and ranted about a portion of the sales being missing from the Soundscan totals, as if it were some sort of conspiracy. If he truly doesn't care about charts, he wouldn't have done this.

It sure looks like a flop at this point but who cares? It's an inexpensive triple album of so-so songs. As diehard fans we got our hands on material that never should have seen a release date. Tracks that your friends and family will never give a fck about. That's not how the system is supposed to work, but it did and in our favor. Prince is still in position to blow our minds with a new album in the future (assuming he gets his head together). I'm not going to give Prince sht over this.

I honestly wonder where some of you have been the last few years. CD sales are bad for everyone. To see this CD still on the charts with no promotion is pretty good and in addtion I do not think some of you realize that artist are making 4 times the money from these retail deals as they do from ordinary arrangements therefore finanical wise this was not a flop for Prince.

I think it depends on what metrics you're using. If it's all about the money, then it's not a flop. However, if it's about getting the music out to the maximum number of listeners possible, then that's another story.
