Diamonds & Pearls Vs. Purple Rain

Which title track was the best?

They were both singles released from hit albums, and both charted high.
They are radically different from each other in tone, production, and just about everything you could throw at this sentence but the kitchen sink.

My vote goes to Purple Rain.

Let me put it this way. The only difference between it and Jughead is that Jughead didn't take itself seriously. I hate both equally.

well, try love, don't hate.... wink

Diamonds & Pearls is a beautiful POP song - however it just can't be compared to the Prince's signature rock ballad that is Purple Rain.

We all know that. But I'm glad Prince is able to make POP also, if every song sounded like Purple Rain it all would be a little boring wouldn't it?

I really love the "big four" singles from the D&P album...

back to the question:

D&P, the POP song... 9
Purple Rain.... the classic rock ballad... 10

just imo.. wink

I pick Diamonds & Pearls for the clock-like arm motions the dancers do during the musical interlude, as well as for the lyrics "d to the i to the a to the m"

I'm embarrassed I ever liked Diamonds and Pearls. That was about the time that being a Prince fan went from being uber cool to totally gay.

IMO, both are "good" songs, and obviously, commercially huge.

But neither is even close to his best work.
