Most definately I remember that. I first started to notice that in 81. The black stations out here in L.A. played not only Prince every hour but also cuts from The Time. You could easily hear the songs Controversy, Let's Work or Do Me, Baby and then the songs Cool, Get It Up or The Stick or Girl. Then when the album 1999 hit, they were already playing Vanity 6 cuts along with The Time's second album. So within one hour, every hour, they would easily play the single 1999 or LRC and album cuts like D.M.S.R., Lady Cab Driver (edited radio version) and Automatic (edited radio version), 777-9311, Wild and Loose, and O.G's Get Lonely Too, along with Nasty Girl and Drive Me Wild. They would play one each from P, Vanity 6 and The Time. Of course in the summer of 84, that was heaven for any Prince fan. Prince and his acts TOTALLY dominated radio. Black and Pop stations alike were playing anything that was connected with Prince. When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, Erotic City, Jungle Love, Ice Cream Castles, The Bird, The Glam Life, Sex Shooter, were played at any given time. But always one song from each artists all in the same hour. Prince was absolutely cleaning up in the royalties and publishing department.

i do too-but unfortunately-these days-if P aint gonna play the 'game' that ALL no matter how great we-or the artist think of themselves-ALL have to play that game. If all the artist is ever heard saying is -radio is shit-i hate it which is a blunt way of saying Prince's view on it for a looong time now-it to be expected. Radio is not the enemy-ego's are.....

Better yet, I remember when MTV actually played music videos and every 30 minutes either 1999 was on or Little Red Corvette. They alternated them. Those were the good ole days wink

I'm from the UK and they very rarely play Prince. It's almost as if he doesn't exist anymore.

I remember him being on the radio all the time. I had a rule when I was in my car, if a Prince song was playing on the radio and I reached my destination, the car couldn't be turned off until the song was over. Ahh, cruising along with the windows down and the radio cranked with a Prince song on, me singing & dancing. I didn't care who saw!

I definately remember
Good times

Radio is much different now
I don't listen to radio much now
unless it's jazz, jazz still seems to be untouched by Pop culture at large

I'm a house head too so that is still very underground or something you can catch in D.C. New York or Chicago (as well as other cities sparsly) on a Friday or Saturday night for an hour or 2 around 11pm or 1am

But I remember hearing Prince's music all the time, people talk about Black music and Prince leaving his 'black' audience for more of a rock or psychedelic sound via Purple Rain ATWIAD Parade and I don't believe it, the 80's was much more varied than that: back then Black music was anything someone we identified as black playing whatever music that was. of course that also depends one what region/city too. But our local 'black' station played rock jazz pop rnb blues

Purple Rain the album as a whole got non stop airplay along with the bsides the Time Glamorous Life, Love Bizare, the Family, Mazarati, Raspberry Beret, America, Pop Life, the Ladder the Bsides, Mountains, Kiss, AnotherLover... Sometimes It Snows, Old Friends 4 Sale, Love or Money

Hearing a new Prince song and hunting the record stores for albums were a cultural dream

I remember cloud9

I also remember shows that showed "top 10 video's"
(Not mtv or vh1) but kooky video show's with loud obnoxious v-jays. There was one show out of L.A. that always no matter what had Prince on at least once per show, sometimes even twice as a "tribute" god I miss those days.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
