None of the albums that he actually released after it because his style had already drastically changed just as much as "Around The World In A Day". The proper album to have been released at the time would be the unreleased follow-up to "1999" that he said he had recorded in his "Rolling Stone" interview back in 1985.

I've always imagined that Prince could have put together an album titled 'The Dance Electric' containing many songs recorded in 1983/84,such as...

The Dance Electric
Extra Loveable
G-Spot
Moonbeam Levels
Electric Intercourse
Turn It Up
Possessed
Feel U Up

and a few other tracks recorded in that period.Could you imagine an album like this being released in the summer of 1985?!

And don't forget "Heaven". That one would have really turned it out.

That would have been a KILLER album! definitely would have ridden the Purple Rain wave a lot better than ATWIAD. But on question, which version of Feel U up?

An album like that would have kept Prince extremely successful and popular following "Purple Rain". Beginning with "Around The World In A Day", Prince became less and less popular, at least here in the States.

what about a version of "The Screams Of Passion" sung with Sheila E.? An album like that would have been incredible!

he should've released an album with the name 'ROYAL BADNESS'

and these songs on it:

1. PUSSY CONTROL ( follow up to darling Nikki, piss off GORE some more)
2 GET-OFF
3 SHHH
4 INSATIABLE
5 KISS
6 ADORE
7 U GOT THE LOOK
8 CREAM
9 BAMBI
10 SEXY M.F

an album like this would have pushed the envelope even more, following up on Dirty Mind and controversy, and set off a fire storm (tipper gore) and create a huge buzz!!! People would buy like crazy cause no one was that raw at the time..and SEX sells.

haha. batshit album.

I think ATWIAD was the right way to go. What better way to weed out the bandwagoners from the real fans than by throwing us something completely different? Purple Rain Pt 2 would've been perceived, even back then most likely, as laziness for the sake of commercial success.

Now why would an artist want to "weed" out any of his fans? This is a business, his fans are his "customers" everyone's money has the same value...the more the merrier!

I haven't heard that version but if it's anything like The Family's version (with the orchestras and things) it would have been laughed out of here. "Around The World In A Day" pissed a lot of people off but it did prepare them for the "Parade" and "The Family" albums the following year. People just thought he lost a little bit more of his mind when those albums came out. Had they come out immediately after "Purple Rain" with no preparation whatsoever being as drastically changed as they were, a lot of fans might have just dropped Prince altogether. Hell, I almost did myself and I had the preparation of ATWIAD. If Shitney had not come along and influenced others for the worst during those years and folks like Bill Summers and Summers Heat or Lakeside had still been dominating things, Prince would have been a memory for my ass. lol

The Gold Experience. It would probably have made The Most Beautiful Girl In The World into number one, not number three, and I Hate U would probably have reached higher than 12.

It's funny, but music has probably got a lot to do with timing.

TMBGITW was #1.

I was referring to The Billboard Hot 100. Should've made that clear.
