It is not some of his recent stuff that sucks it is all and I am hoping that the pathetic attempt at guitar playing will put this troll back in his hole for the last time. That being said you enjoy and I will maintain my good taste and avoid Lil Wayne. I will not stop making fun of him I was. And that's definitely up for debate. And offensive? He has released, and hopefully will release, good stuff. (I think he's been releasing some subpar material lately, the guitar stuff included). If you can listen to Tha Carter 2 or 3 and support a belief that it is bad music, then I respect your opinion. But I think it's good music. Of course Weezy is slightly batshit. It's part the appeal to me. His lyrics range from coarse to clever, and his output currently seems to favor quantity over quality. That's something Prince has embodied at least once or twice in his career. | |

Is it not ironic that so many people post audio and video files of lame ass rock groups that can barely play three chords and sing at the same time covering Prince's work and hail that crap is "amazing," and all Li'l Wayne does is declare that Prince has created a role and a movie that he admires, but he gets blasted as somehow being unworthy of liking or being influenced by Prince. How is it okay for one group or genre of people to like Prince but not another? So many people on this cite act as if they or their clique or their culture has a monopoly over who can enjoy Prince and be inspired by Prince.
I have only found one of Li'l Wayne's songs enjoyable, "Shooter," which is actually by Robin Thick. Yet, I can recognize when a younger artist is simply showing love for an older artist that he admires. Yet, it is amazing that his language or dialect, physical appearance, and genre disqualify him from being able to show love for and be influenced by Prince. Yet, other folk can look and be equally weird, and it's all cool... The truth of the matter is that art, all art, should be about mentorship and helping to develop younger artists. This could be an opportunity for Prince or people who like Prince to encourage a young artist to enhance or expand his musical or creative range, but, for some reason, most of the people on this thread have assumed that Li'l Wayne is innately incapable of truly enjoying Prince's work or growing as an artist. But, that says more about the people who have attacked Li'l Wayne for no reason than it says about Li'l Wayne. |
