Totally agree. There's a bass player over seas, I forget his name, but he does these medleys of NPGMC songs, and they sound GREAT live. He does "Silicon", "Props and Pounds", "Northside", "Bamboozled" "Hypnoparadise" and other songs. He rocks the SHIT outta them. He's got some ridiculously awesome six or seven string bass, and his band is tighter than Prince's asshole in winter. If THAT guy can make Prince's NPGMC shit sound THAT good (and I'm a big naysayer of most of that material), then Prince sure can. That white boy needs to play w/ Prince for a few years. Prince might rediscover his love of the bass in his music.

Edit: I found the video. His name is Dom Horus, I think. Here is his NPG Party Medley.

I'd be embarrassed to come out for this album, too. Completely uninspired. So bad it's depressing.

It seems he has already (again?) lost interest in the project.

Why it is?:

Because he never was that interested in it in the first place. Once Target's cheque cleared and the website made all the money there was to be made, he was done.

Also, he feels like he's entitled to things like airplay, chart action, etc. He thinks these things just fall into his lap, and that he deserves this. Prince doesn't realize that these things used to be dealt with by his record label, his manager,...

Riverpoet31 said:

It seems so: its not like with projects as Purple Rain Sign or the Times, Lovesexy or even Diamonds and Pearls: for those projects he seemed 'greedy' and more passionate to go for a certain sound, certain themes, a certain look, an integrated view hy was trying to express, promoted properly with a number singles and also video's that 'echoed' those styles.

PR perhaps, but D&P was a calculated attempt at scoring a huge hit so he could negotiate a lucrative contract. Which he then didn't read, signed against the advice of his colleagues and advisers, and then bitched about for years.

Because its pretty dull and uninspired? I'm sure he feels ashamed about these new albums he puts out hence their songs don't have enduring live concert appeal.

And don't forget the obligatory 'blame the industry' act because the record didn't sell well. And blame the fans for having high expectations. And blame the internet for illegal downloads. He does the same thing every album, now.

Thats not right

Right - albums sales is the uneducated man's yardstick for music. Until someone can tell mee why Britteny Spears is not considered a genius even though hshe has sold so many records, I will contiue to maintain that - today more than ever - quality has almost nothing to do with quantity.

If everyone on here is so concerned with the charting of LotusFlow3r then go out and buy 3 copies for your friends.
I paid the 77 dollars for the website and still went to Target and got the cd.
Stop asking what Prince can do for you and ask what you can do for Prince!
Quit whining about charts and his lack of interest.
In less than 3 months he's done 5 performances on tv.
3 shows in Los Angeles and the Tavis interview.
That more than I've seen him in the past year.
Get over it already. What? Does he have to call you up and personally tell you to listen to a track to promote the cd!
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Dig it - I paid the 77 and bought 2 sets from Target because I back everything Prince does - not because I give a flip about charts. I lose respect for any charts that have unsubstantial lightweights like Britteny Spears and Justin Timberlake at the top of them.

Your obviously in the minority here. But it's refreshing to see someone with a realistic viewpoint about album sales. Peace!

I feel Lotusflow3r is one of his best works in a long time. I think it's better than his last three works. The "lotusflow3r" album itself is very cohesive as well. I don't think he can do much better than the quality on that album. He is 51 afterall. I think it's respectable anyway.....

If people are going to be buying multiples of a CD to support an artist why not spend it on an unsung artist. I mean couldn't Rosie and Mavis use the money more? I think Prince would appretiate that we supported the artists that he showcases because they're damn good at what they do!!!

not 2 do a little nit picking here but i understand where ur coming from but have u thought 4 just once what others outside of ur area had 2 go through as well?

let's revisit some history here, the sign o the times tour NEVER came 2 any one else but europe, same with the nude tour .planet crap was given away FREE in a newspaper where everyone else in the world had 2 buy it. the same with the dvd of the sign o the times movie. all the times he appered on european tv, the rest of the world didn't c it at all. unless u went underground and found it which some did.

so now ur complaining about how lotus isn't availabe 2 u in a record store unless it's as a import. hmmm people across the world have done that 4 ages! it comes down 2, if u truly want it, u'll find a way.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

It would be nice to have new music thats worth touring around

All of this tours have been greatest hits, of late. Even after 21 dates in London, he played Planet Earth or 3121 material probably 2% of the time.

No idea of course what you do for living. But somehow suspect there isn't an entire forum dedicated to dissing it.

Can you imagine getting up to work every day knowing someone ready to pounce on it? Can you imagine that it doesn't necessarily make things easier? Or make you do your job better?

I'm not in that position myself (no one really cares about what I do), but I do think anyone who's a fan needs to moderate criticism (which, let's face it, is a helpful spur to creativity) with out and out scorn / sarcasm

Few of us are born with talent...many more with the limited verbal skill required to temporarily look smart with a quick put down.

If you're not slightly in awe of the talent behind prince, what are you doing here? And if you are slightly humbled by a creative output few can equal (I'm guessing that includes you) then maybe don't be afraid to show it a little more...there's a way to criticise without crushing a project...guess what, it's harder to do

We're all fans, that's why we're here...but you know getting anyone to do their best isn't about shitting on them.
