How come Prince isn't pushing The Lotusflw3r set? The album is now #72 on the billboard album chart... Is Prince bored of the project already?..... If he released "dance 4 me" or "$" then the album could hang on... A tour would help as well. It's frustrating being prince fan... Has he given up this whole thing? BOB4theFUNK

i don't see this as any different than what lots of artists do these days. its the initial push with all the talk show appearances, etc. but who's seen U2 promoting their album heavily? i could name others. i think a couple singles MIGHT help, but no guarantee, radio sucks and even veteran artists struggle for airplay. give him a break, the industry has changed

Prince did his promotion on JAY LENO and he gave the fans 3 great live performances and then he went on the ELLEN show and performed one jam on there too. He did mention that he was on his way back to MPLS to work on a new JAZZ project with ANITA BAKER. That project will probably be very similar to what he did with the LOTUSFLOWER 3 cd set. I would say we will see another 3 cd's.....one with ANITA BAKER.....a new PRINCE JAZZ cd.....and something else for the 3rd set.

Those shelves aren't empty, and Target has listed LotusFlow3r as a "best seller" in this week's flier. Of course they also listed Feminem as the same. LOL [Edited 6/4/09 11:14am]

And don't forget the obligatory 'blame the industry' act because the record didn't sell well. And blame the fans for having high expectations. And blame the internet for illegal downloads. He does the same thing every album, now.

release them to where? radio doesn't play his music, tv doesn't show his videos. the only ones who'd know or care are us, and we already own the cd. this message brought to you by logic.

http://www.u2.com/tour/index/ See those tourdates? That's promotion, no? And no, singles would not help. Nothing on this set would get significant airplay. Why should anyone give him a break? The climate in the industry doesn't change the fact that this is yet another project that Prince has foisted on the world and abandoned nearly immediately. That never used to happen. It's increasingly clear that Prince doesn't think much of the music he releases these days.

he could release those songs as singles sure he could ..the real question is: who would play them? has any one heard any of the songs off lotus/mpls sound anywhere on commercial radio? the videos seen on any commerical tv? once again prince lacks marketing insight man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

He'll soon be 51 and at that age he's highly unlikely to add on fans. You're right there was nothing about this music that would appeal to anybody that was not already a fan. Everyone over 25 already knows his sound and whether or not they like it. Honestly I don't know when the last release was that actually brought in new listeners. It can be done. I never was into Willy Nelson until he started duet albums with others. That I really like. Ray Charles also did great duets. People would get excited about Prince having an album that featured duets with Beyonce, A.Keyes, N.Jones, A. Baker etc. Their are MANY female singers that would do anything to duet with P. (I DO NOT MEAN BRIA, MAYTE AND THE LIKE- HEAR ME P!!!). He also can hold his own with any singer.

There's a bass player over seas, I forget his name, but he does these medleys of NPGMC songs, and they sound GREAT live. He does "Silicon", "Props and Pounds", "Northside", "Bamboozled" "Hypnoparadise" and other songs. He rocks the SHIT outta them. He's got some ridiculously awesome six or seven string bass, and his band is tighter than Prince's asshole in winter. If THAT guy can make Prince's NPGMC shit sound THAT good (and I'm a big naysayer of most of that material), then Prince sure can. That white boy needs to play w/ Prince for a few years. Prince might rediscover his love of the bass in his music. Edit: I found the video. His name is Dom Horus, I think. Here is his NPG Party Medley. http://www.youtube.com/wa...yhuvHJW9fU

Did Target require Prince to market the record? Did Prince's contract say to market the record?
If he did market the record would he be critized by the fanbase for not playing this song or that song? ANSWER: We don't know?

Thanks It's from One Nite Alone, released in 2002 or so. The version on Lotus is a remake.

He’s done some significant promo for the project, but he needs to do more. Get out there and support it with more performances. Leno and Ellen are apparently not enough, so keep trying. At least officially release a single first before saying it’s not getting airplay.
Just my two cents, but why not perform one particular song over the course of several performances, instead of lots of different songs. No songs on radio and no videos on television means there’s no repetition for the masses. Most people have a low attention span when it comes to songs. They/we don’t always fall in love with a song the first time we hear it. We need to hear it more than once. Maybe play one song – such as Crimson and Clover – again and again to make up for the lack of radio or video airplay. Create repetition through performances instead of through radio or video. Can't hurt.

He read on here that everyone hated it for some ambiguous reason or another and decided to make music only for the Jehovah Witnesses and retire from touring completely.
To quote the Pussycat Dolls "Be careful what you wish for cuz' you just might get it!" Leave the man alone for 5 minutes he'll be back soon enough! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

It kinda boggles me too.
Not only is he under-promoting this particular album, but this thing has been going on since the release of 3121 IMO. Musicology (the album and the tour) sort of brought him back into the public eye, after a long, rather 'obscure' periode (1996 - 1999: The slave / plastic R&B years, 2000 - 2004: the JW / jazz-rock years). The mainstream folks were showing appreciation again for him: he was not longer solely seen as some 'freak' and stubborn indie-artist of the past, but he seemed to be respected more as some elderly music-tutor and long-going music legend. But this short momentum of renewed public approval did almost end as quickly as it started. Apart from his splended performance on SNL, he could have done 'more', single-wise, but the 3121-album: why didnt he release Love as a single, for example? One of his strongest melodies / dance-pop compositions since years. Planet Earth was even more under-promoted. No official video for Guitar, Video's for SHOE and Chelsea Rodgers, that were released too late and/or simply not 'plugged'. And with Lotusflower/MPLsound, things are looking quite the same. Some decent to good live-performances of songs on the Tonight show, a clip I have never seen on MTV or other music channels, but only on youtube (Crimson and glover). It seems he has allready (again?) lost interest in the project. Why it is?: - Isnt releasing music on CD (or video) simply not that important to him anymore? It seems so: its not like with projects as Purple Rain Sign or the Times, Lovesexy or even Diamonds and Pearls: for those projects he seemed 'greedy' and more passionate to go for a certain sound, certain themes, a certain look, an integrated view hy was trying to express, promoted properly with a number singles and also video's that 'echoed' those styles. - Is he simply GOING ON with his career, but without most of the passion and excitement that did originally drive him? The last 3 albums mostly sound like he assembled a number of reworked tunes from the vault with a couple of new ones to 'make' yet another album. Offering something for everyone (a little rock, a little r&B, some pop, a bit of jazz), but lacking a coherent 'drive'. I admit that it counts the least for Lotusflower/MPlsound, but to me the first mostly sounds like TRC-lite. Nothing groundbreaking there, a rather boring retreat actually. While the latter just harks back in name to the Minneapolis sound, while it lacks most of its original, distinct qualities. And what is the use of putting a protege-album unto the 3CD-set, when there has been zero-promotion for Bria since? - Is he simply satisfied with the 'cash' he makes on his albums? I hate to be cynical, but often i get the impression that Prince is rather satisfied with how things are going in the last years. Releasing albums the easy way, not putting much effort into promoting his new music. By not releasing albums on a record-label he is signed, and by 'clever' deals like selling albums through a newspaper or stores, he is making millions on every one of these albums, without having to put much effort in it. And even if those albums are selling a mere number of 200.000 or 300.000 they keep reminding people that Prince is still busy as an artist, and based on his past he is able to rather easily make even more millions with the Musicology tour, the Vegas thing and the 21 nights concerts. As long as that 'works' for him, it can go on for years and years like this, i think.
