Scandalous - The greatest ballad of them all? I hated this track at the time but now cannot for the life of me see why. Really it's the only good thing on the Batman album. But it's better than good it's sublime. Surely one of the greatest of all the ballads. The isolated sound that characterizes the Batman album actually really works for this song. I love the incredibly slow way the long melody line unfurls and I especially love the Vicky Vale sobbing at the end. Smouldering perfection. SCANDALOUS! MARVELOUS! I'm testing postive 4 the funk

I think it's inferior (as is "Insatiable") to his previous ballads. I think "Adore" is his last GREAT ballad. He's had other good ones, but the last GREAT one was "Adore".

Batman album is one of my favourite and Scandalous is one of the most sexy songs..it's great 4 funky time..you know what I mean

It's a very good tune, especially live more so than the studio recorded version.
But for me, Adore is the greatest all time ballad thus far.

I love Adore but Scandalous would be in my top 5. I think Do Me Baby and International Lover i'd rank ahead of it on my list. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

I love most or should I say all of his slow jams but then again, I am a fanatic. I loved this song when it first came out. The lyrics are what set it apart for me. The profoudness in which he expresses his appetite for for her and what they do is full of desire. "Whisper a question...with my body I scream a reply". The feeling I get from this song is classic Prince. For the best ballad of them all I would put it up there in my favorite 10.

I love Adore, don't get me wrong, so I have to parse my words carefully. But, I think it's hugely overrated. There are many Prince ballads that I think are easily as good. But, I think I'm in the minority. People talk about Adore as if it's the best song ever, not just by Prince.

Scandalous is great. It's sort of cheesy (DING dong), but I love it.

i CERTAINLY wouldn't say it was the only good thing on that album, but it's definitely one of the good things on it.

Great song. "Extraordinary," is beautiful also. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I first got a little bit into prince through batman, before getting in2 him (if that makes sense), but I loved partyman and when hearing Scandalous at the end credits the beat litrally moved me and the vocals on this track are killer.
Its just another example of something that should've been more (or at least more appreciated by general audiences)

Sexy ballad that didn't get much air play unless your one of those late night groovers. "I don't make the rules. I just play"

Scandalous is one of those songs that's so cheesy, it's good!
I love this song, especially The Crime, The Passion, The Rapture. Honestly, it's amazing. The Passion portion of the mega version is phenomenal, once again proving that Prince is a genious. But the banter between he and Kim Basinger... "Where am I? Where do you wanna be?" ... is laughable... but in a good way! I used to have a college radio show. My name was "MC Scandalous" because of this song! Despite my subtle knock of this song, it's one of my all-time favorite Prince ballads. But no. It's not on a level with Adore. Some people say that Adore is over-rated. I beg to differ. Adore is greatest song of all time! My top "released" Prince ballads go something like this: 1. Adore 2. Insatiable 3. The Beautiful Ones 4. Do Me Baby 5. It's Gonna Be Lonely 6. Purple Rain 7. Pink Cashmere 8. Scandalous (The Crime, The Passion, The Rapture) 9. International Lover 10. How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore 11. Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife 12. Crucial 13. Shh... (Break it Down) 14. Call My Name 15. The Morning Papers 16. Diamonds and Pearls 17. Comeback 18. Until U're in My Arms Again 19. Man O'War 20. Dark [Edited 6/20/09 9:44am] The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I admire your firm opinion, it is so hard for me to decide even a favorite Prince line, how you picked a favorite ballad is beyond me? nice work, I can only dream

I've always kind of paired Scandalous with Still Would Stand All Time. I realise the former is a ballad and the latter a kind of slow gospel number so one is sexy and the other reverential and godly. But to my mind they have a similar sound. Obviously they were both recorded during a similar period in his career. But both are now firmly among my all time favourites.
Also these two tracks seem to reflect the two conflicting sides of his personality Still Would Stand All Time represents the sacred And Scandalous is the profane And both to my mind are profoundly beautiful. I'm testing postive 4 the funk

never really cared for Scandalous all that much. to me, it's a remake of Do Me Baby and International Lover (and he went on to remake it a few more times with Insatiable and several others).
the Scandalous Sex Suite version goes a long way to improving it, but the original track just kind of lays there for me.

It sounds like a standard template 'sex u up' ballad or something. His better ballads are Adore, The Beautiful Ones, If I Was your Girlfriend, God Created Woman, and Damn U to name a few. Scandalous doesn't really rank that high for me. Plus, what's up with that creepy crying sound in the background? ew.
