what langeblue is saying, is that all of the instrumentals that are not
obvious covers, were improvised on the spot. the instrumentals on the "c-note" album were recorded during the same tour, during soundchecks. no one knows to what level they might have been rehearsed or arranged by prince and the band before that time but it seems to be agreed upon that they are improvised instrumentals. i've wondered about some of those other instrumentals from that tour as well. especially since it's almost impossible to know every single jazz or funk track that they could be incorporating in these jams. but from the way they flow and are structured it's a safe bet that for the most part they're made up by the band on the spot. which is all the more credit to one of his best bands ever and true love lives on lollipops and crisps | |
