Conditon of the heart and Power Fantastic

I truly believe these two songs to be close to musical perfection, particularly the former.

They have something that cannot be described that makes my gut flip. They have such innocence, but all consuming knowledge rolled together. I think that long long into the future, music like this from Prince will sit as some of the most memorable recordings in music. There's also something about the production that is so naked and real that i'm not sure even Prince himself could describe how the magic was captured on tape.

I know many on the org say that he is better live and his recordings can sometimes lack spirit. Well that certainly isn't the case with some of his classics. Raspberry beret is anothe case in point. Thee feel on record can never really be captured in a live performance.

Anyone with me on Condition and Power Fantastic? cool Any other songs that compare in emotion and complexity?

Agree with you on that score.

I sometimes think that his new recordings would be even better if he spent less time producing the arse out of them and left them a bit stripped and as initially heard it in his head. I think technology has taken the spirit out of loads of music recently.

I agree 'Power Fantastic' is a really high watermark for Prince and The Revolution.

I'm with U all the way, I still listen to Condition of the Heart all the way through all the time. I still can't explain how this song feels especially the opening.

Power Fantastic has a similar feel and when I first heard it I kept playing it over and over
Have you heard the 1 min intro?
I don't know the real band inclusion on Condition of the Heart, the album version outshines any live performance because the live is always in a 'medley' or only about 2 something min long. Condition of the Heart was supposed to be a storyline of a version of the movie Under the Cherry Moon

Power Fantastic is a full Revolution number composed by Lisa originally a song called Carousel she was working on.

Power Fantastic was recorded mid March 1985
a song based on a composition by Lisa Coleman called "Carousel"
according to engineer Susan Rogers
Prince sang in a corner of the room
It was some of the most intimate experience of her career:
She felt at the very center of artistic creation
Eric Leed, who played a lilting flute solo
walked out of the studio feeling goose bumps
"That's one of the greatest things we ever did," he remembered

Susan Rogers noted this song was "Nailed in one take"

Power Fantastic was supposed to be one
of the cornerstones of Prince & the Revolutions
next project the Dream Factory

* Condition of the Heart
* Sometimes It Snows In April
* Power Fantastic
* an original demo of Nothing Compares 2 U which had a similar arragment as Condition of the Hear/Power Fantastic, it as a couple more layers to the musical arrangement

Are 3 songs that give me that feeling and I've never come across anything before during or since that compares

Many Prince fans have said you in the past few years and I think he was trying to get closer to that "stripped" sound with some of the songs on Lotusflow3r. Yes, it is perfectly mixed and arranged with loads of attention paid to detail often (but that's also something we love about him, isn't it?), but it just sounds way more "down to earth" somehow, compared to other albums from the 21st century.
Listen to the second "Wild Thing" part in Crimson And Clover, where the bass guitar plays what the electric guitar does the first time - it sounds a bit not perfectly timed! I know it's just a very small detail, but there things count for me and I love looking for them! nod
