I do not believe Prince doesn't care about promotion, he just likes to do his own, his way. [Edited 5/29/09 15:52pm]

It was just 5:37 from it coming back from commercial to the end production company credits just before Jimmy Fallon's show came on. Sounds about normal. Any show will arrange their schedule around the length of a song for an artist, considering it's not an 8 minute ode to something. His previous 3 appearances all varied in time, and still ended right when the show was ending.

An artist or company can promote a brand all day, but if there is no product to back it up, who'd give a fuck? Is he just trying to keep his back catalog in flow so he can keep the lights on at Paisley Park?
It's a bit like the War on Terror. It's a BIG thing, promoted by Bush and his buzzards, but what is the product it's a part of? Conjecture moment: I actually think Prince MIGHT get discouraged by the lack of interest sometimes, and just dismisses it and moves on. He might SAY "it's not about charts", but when the charts truly don't like him, he just moves on to save face. But in fairness let's remember, Lotus was #2 for a week, and 3121 debuted at #1, and thanks to some fancy selling tactics, Musicology was #3. Not bad in the last 3 projects. The album sells, but to what end? Can any casual fan who hasn't even heard of Prince.org name one song from those three albums, EXCEPT a familiar cover called "Crimson & Clover" ? Is that what a brand does? Okay, I agree, he's a legend. Surely that doesn't lend to him just sitting on his proverbial haunches and resting on his Purple Rain and Batman and name change laurels. Just thoughts.

There's a fine line between 'legend' and 'has-been'. OUCH!

Prince is definitely a legend, and I do believe that Prince cares about promotion. I just think that Prince has learned a lot about the business world and that he cares to move more slowly and carefully these days.
I can see Prince continuing on with idea's in the future that may venture outside of music as well. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I don't think he meant the length of the time slot, but the value of it...being the next to last show and all.
