Student Sues Prince over Photograph
A Minnesota college student sues the rock star and his bodyguard for allegedly assaulting him late last year after he took a picture at the airport.

A Minnesota college student has sued Prince and his bodyguard for allegedly assaulting him late last year after he took a picture of the rock star as he was getting off a flight at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, say reports.

Frank Berman, an attorney for student Anthony Fitzgerald of Edina, Minn., tells the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the lawsuit, dated Jan. 14, was filed in the Hennepin County Government Center this past Wednesday because Prince's "people" wouldn't accept a copy of it.

Furthermore, Berman said Fitzgerald is asking the court for instructions on how to serve the star with the papers.

Fitzgerald claims that on Dec. 29, Prince's bodyguard, identified only as "Trevor," lunged at him "in an aggressive, threatening manner," then grabbed his digital camera, leaving him "stunned and humiliated."

Fitzgerald is seeking damages for assault and battery, loss of the camera and intentional infliction of emotional distress that purportedly left him anxious and unable to sleep.

Prince spokeswoman Ronnie Lippin tells the Star-Tribune that she's not familiar with the lawsuit, and had no comment.

College student ANTHONY FITZGERALD filed a $50,000 (GBP27,000) lawsuit against Prince in April (04), claiming he was assaulted at Minneapolis-St Pail Airport, Minnesota on 29 December (03) and his camera was confiscated after he took a photo of Prince departing a plane.
But the singer has filed a countersuit this week (24JUN04) alleging Fitzgerald invaded his privacy and violated trademark and copyright law.
Prince's lawyer KRISTEN NAROS says, "Fitzgerald's claim has no legal basis and we will be fighting this in court."
But lawyer Kari Berman is confident his client will win, "He is a public figure walking through a public airport. There's no expectation of privacy, and he knows it."

It's easier to get a boot bomb through airport security than get a camera near Prince. Of course, they can't confiscate your camera phone at his concerts. Back in the day, bringing a flash camera to a Prince show would mean a walk of shame back to your car.

I went to a Lovesexy show in Chicago, Il and me and a couple of friends were waiting in the parking lot of the then Rosemont Horizon at about 2:00 in the afternoon hoping to catch a glimpse of him. It was a rainy afternoon. All of the sudden this black van and a couple of black limos pull into the parking lot and we freaked out and jumped out of the car and ran towards them. They were going down this ramp that went underneath the arena. We stood at the top. The last limo stopped at the bottom for a minute and started coming all the way back up the ramp in reverse. Once they were at the top Gilbert (his main bodyguard at the time) gets out of the front and walks around to the back and Prince gets out and says hello and either touches us on the arm or shakes our hand. I managed to get one picture of him and Gilbert told me not to take anymore, and I didn't. They got back in the limo and went into the arena. We all about passed out from excitement and we hadn't even seen the show yet!
