As for Planet Earth; i agree with IstenSzek here well that'sw what i want to find out put stuff like glasscutter and funk or silvertongue on your own version of an album and have it sound like it fits in, rather than it sounding a lot softer or louder or more muffled, flat or whatever. If you use iTunes, you can burn discs with Soundcheck enabled. It smooths the levels out nicely.

Planet Earth was almost the perfect album to follow the performance as it was the closest thing to a rock album he's done since Chaos & Disorder.
The problem was not the type of album but the fact that it's just not that strong, and that it shifts gears midstream. Future Baby Mama & Mr. Goodnight are a fine single (A & B side, respectively) but never should have been o that album. But before that, you have Planet Earth, Guitar, & The 1 U Wanna C, which are all decent rock style songs. Somewhere Here on Earth is strong, too, though it is the first inappropriate gear shift, in terms of both tempo and style. Later, the album just shuts down, more or less. All the Midnights, Lion of Judah, Resolution, nothing particularly spectacular there. Chelsea Rodgers is a nice groove, but the song is fairly weak. It could have fit in with an upbeat rock album, at least, and it's one of the highlights of the second half of the album. I tried to like the album, and there is some decent stuff. But the problem for me was that he actually went in the "right" direction to capture rock fans, but obviously wasn't really feeling it because he couldn't sustain it or come up with strong enough material. The nice thing about the new albums is he seems to genuinely be feeling their vibes (all three), and the enjoyment comes across. My Legacy

What I mean by it being the wrong kind of album wasn't that it was stylistically wrong. Just that it didn't have any 'umph' to it. The Gold Experience is just as sporadic as Planet Earth. It has just as many gear shifts, even in individual songs (for example Shhh! is positive spastic), but it just sounded so much more fierce. Prince was completely showing off. Planet earth just sounded like he through a bunch of filler together and released it. Hell, he could have pulled a bunch of stuff from his vaults and likely blown people away--he's got at least 3 or 4 albums of really good 'leaked' bootleg material, I could only imagine what's not been leaked. It was just a really odd thing to release in the shadow of the stellar Superbowl performance.

I felt The 1 U Wanna C, while extremely lite, is a really genuinely catchy pop tune. My Legacy

The only thing it lacked was some interesting instrumentation (no flutes, violins, etc.). Thanks for supporting my shit thread, boo

Yeah I have said that The 1 U Wanna C is his best pop single material since Cream. That is to say, not his best song, but a nice lump of sugar. My Legacy
