Love or $ : When Will U B Paid?

Will there ever come a time when you would sell off most or all of your Prince collection and move on?

haha, same here. i don't think i'll sell my stuff ever. no one gives you
any real kind of cash for your old cd's anyway so why bother selling it,
if you can just put it in a box in the attic and perhaps you'll look at
it again sometime or perhaps your kids can laugh at it in 20 years time.

plus, i rip all my music to my computer instantly and just file the hard
copy away in that same box on the attic. i don't even have a regular cd
player anymore. so i would always have to keep my hardcopies for backup,
in case my 1st back up dies on me too, lol.

I've certainly thought about it in the past. I have everything digitized anyway. There are times when I'm tired of the bland, over/under produced mess he puts out. I hated TRC. I hated the instrumental nonsense like N.E.W.S., Xpectation, etc. Musicology? Yeah, I bought that LAST year for the first time. I was hopeful with 3121 and Planet Earth. Good and great respectively. Then I'm happy he's doing a big deal with Target. It's good for exposure, but does it have the teeth to keep the bite in the project? Nah, not enough.

For me, it's been the worst Prince decade by far. And I don't wanna hear how great Musicology was, and how horrible Planet Earth was, and how wonderful his JW drivel on TRC is to listen to. We've covered all that. My point is that yeah.....I've come SO SO SO very close to selling the whole lot of it. Every CD, every piece of rare and out of print and collectible vinyl that I've found. Every promo, every DVD, every poster. DONE. GONE. I've thought of it, a lot. But ....so far, I'm still in possession of a huge library of Prince shiz.

Over the last couple of years...I've given away some of my collection. In the sense that you give away a treasured pet that you can no longer support. You find it a good home where it will be loved and taken good care of.

I'm not yet at the point where I'd sell my most prized possessions to the highest bidder but then again...I haven't seen an offer that I couldn't refuse either! wink
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

NEVER.....the collection dies with me,
It will be past down with full instructions to my niece on exactly how to enjoy all this music. She will know exactly and understand what PRINCE meant to me musically and that will be fully made understood. She started playing the piano now so she is musically involved already so hopefully she will appreciate the legacy.

Got a question on this: You mention that you have most of it digitized but would you also sell your cd's even if you didn't have a digital copy. So that you wouldn't have that music anymore at all?

Just curious.

Good questions. Of course, I'd digitize something before I sold it. I'd still want some copy of it on my computer/iPod/AppleTV. All of my CDs have been ripped to my computer, and I believe I have most of the 12" in digital format. Goodness I have so much vinyl, I'd have to do a double check if I ever decided to sell it all. No plans to though, right now.

I'm certainly losing something....really not fussed that I don't have Lotusflow3r and have no plans to shell out the £30 price. I think prince had done too many mediocre albums to maintain a full force interest...but he's a sneaky devil as, whenever I'm about to give up totally, he tours and shows what he can do she he HAS to put the effort in

Ah ok, I guess that's the thing even with the albums you're not fully into: even with those albums it's hard to let them go completely. Once in a while you might feel the urge to give them another try and when that time comes I think you'd regret having sold the stuff.

You can express it but don't expect to not get clowned. Your buying the music of an artist you don't care for anymore. I find it interesting. biggrin

This was not an overnight thing, trust me.

First to go were the paper goods, then the cassettes, then the VHS tapes. Vinyl was the last to go and the only thing I regret, but even still I don't regret it that much to where I'm losing sleep.

Things like the gold prince case, the Batman tin and my purple paisley Diamonds & Pearls case . . . the music was the same, so after a while they just didn't appeal to me anymore. I gave away my Sacrifice Of Victor book, and probably will give away my 21 Nights book that I bought just for the CD (but keep the CD).

Correction: there is one printed product that I kept and that is the full-size lyric book to Emancipation. I consider that a companion piece to the album and something that was sent to me free from 1-800-New-Funk without me having to purchase it.
