I went to the 1st show and the last show, then about 30 in between. Danced on stage during the LA show that was shown at the Movies. Friends snapped pictures of Prince leaning on me doing a guitar solo during TMWU. Had a blast that year.

cool

We've only seen 2 Prince tours here in Australia, and this was one of them.

Saw both shows in Melbourne, an aftershow, and rehersals before both shows.

The rehersals were absolutely AMAZING!

Just a handful of fans, in a 10,000 plus arena, with all the lights on, and P performing for us, is an experience that I will never forget.

We'd only had the prevlidge to see the D&P shows before mad . So hearing all the classics played live was and absolute delight.

They were such a high, that a 3am aftershow seemed a tad meh after it. eek
I didnt say that out loud did i!?

biggrin

Oh my God, Don't get me started again. It's been 5 years and I still haven't gotten over the Musicology concert. It was indeed one of the most precious moments of my life, when he walked out on that stage and got the biggest applause and standing ovation that I've ever seen. He just stood there looking wonderful with tears in his eyes. Prince couldn't even start singing because the people were showing him so much love. Man oh man, the memories! biggrin

went to the first show of the tour (it was at staples) got the tickets cause my cousin used to work at Tower & would pull concert tickets the minute they went on sale. The show sold out so quick, they added shows at staples, but on the back end of the tour. Got those through the NPGMC.
The first show, I had better seats then Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale, as they walked right pass me before the show started. I went with my girlfriend at the time. We broke up shortly after. The 2nd show I took my buddy for his birthday. We were in the 1st row, but the seats for the 1st show were better. We met some female fans & took the subway to Deep (which was a really hot club at the time) We had juice there & looked so important to these chicks. got wasted, went back to my apartment...Let's just say at the end of the night she took a bite of my purple rock. Awesome night

yeah, i think maybe that had a lot to do with it. the 2002 celebration is probably the pinnacle of the prince fan experience. a real life-changer, you know? wink seeing him in an arena with the great unwashed and doing a standard-type show was a little bit of a come-down.

I wish we all could do it all over again..... I never experienced anything like that before, or since. He was soooo happy. He was having such a good time. The air was full of happiness and love. He did the cutest shuffle with his feet when he danced and was dressed so comfortably a lot of the time. I could go on and on. If it wasn't for Musicology and a lot of patient men I dragged to the concerts..... well, my world would be very very different now. Thanks to the very pretty, handsome, beautiful, kind and loving Prince.
I went to:
Arrowhead Pond
Detroit
Grand Rapids,Michigan
The 2 last shows in San Jose (thanks for going w/me Mr. Cab Driver!)

I've never seen him smile so much since....

here's a review someone did from back then:

Two things that stick in my mind even almost 24 hours after the show. One was seeing Prince onstage in a chair playing his acoustic with 15-20,000 folks all around him. The second was in the final coda of Purple Rain…Prince walked down the ramp to the audience, fatigued and energized at the same time and feeling it...feeling the emotion and love from the crowd and this is what Prince did...he raised his arms in a boxers stance who had just took a pummeling on the ropes but still stood ready to finish the job saying “come on…brang it.”

and he lowered his arms and continued his appreciation of the audience and gave it in a heartfelt way and the audience and Prince both fed off each other

Seeing him in the acoustic setting surrounded by his faithful was awe inspiring. When he played out Purple Rain giving up the ghost and giving up the geetar to keep the crowd going with the “oooh hoo hoo hooo” s, I could see this mighty man swamped and surrounded by a deafening crowd in adulation. And I thought “Prince deserves this”. He deserves this so much and I can tell he was so grateful. I felt he deserves this full arena and I know he was awestruck. It wasn’t like the Purple Rain tour which was equally as successful. Here you could see and feel all that Prince and all the Prince fans have went through. We all came through this journey and it was as if there was this release. It wasn’t even the songs the was wholly responsible either.

Showing the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction speech by Alicia Keys got it hyped...and made us relive and hang on her emotions and words in tribute to the man and gave me a greater appreciation of what she said where previously I thought she had botched it..( Prince and band walked past us in this sequence—dang it, had me looking at the screen! Shakes fist). When she said “get up and show your love ..”etc we all did and it almost brought tears. He put his hands in prayer to Lets Go Crazy and took us to church yes he did. He gave us Controversy again god bless him…re-arranged but dam if him and the horns didn’t get into that groove for 10 minutes…and his chant of “people call me rude” brought chills and then he grooved with his horn family again. He did the Beautiful Ones…beautifully. The passion shown through. He funked up Sign Of The Times while prowling the stage. He made Lets Work and DMSR a party. And the joy he expressed while doing them and the audiences reactions and joy…it should be bottled and sold and put on food, on your sheets, in your pants and in your boots. On The Couch shows his simple yet intricate way with a melody and funny lyric with a plaintive delivery that Prince does so dam well it’s just gotta be a trip to be able to do such a thing…so easily (shakes head).

And he let the folks onstage and nobody tripped out..one just tripped and it was so funny and cute. And everyone upstage did their thing without running after the guy and Prince still did his business withig the folks and it all blended well and did not get in the way of the process or doo rag...things done changed yes indeed.

And when he did that acoustic set, this time with geetar instead of piano, seeing the audience on the other side since it was in the round, seemed like it was Elvis in his return mode ...the one where he wore the leather. And it also reminded me of the often wished for “storytellers” performance that many have craved. But in this gigantic setting that was made so personal. When he did Sometimes It Snows in April you knew he was doing it not just for the casual fans but for the die-hards as well. It was supposed to be over after Little Red Corvette but he threw this beautiful gem in there to show the “Quiet Power” of his music. And then this mug had the nerve to top that off with 7. Perfectly song for acoustic and simple solid singing…singing by Prince and the audience. I think he was trying to kill us folks …kill us softly with quiet power. And that’s the thing...Prince’s canon is/should be part of the great American songbook…hell, part of the world songbook. Stripped down we got to hear the business of songwriting and we heard it without the dressing up…the man could have just come out and did acoustic for 2.5 hours and it would have been just as satisfying. And the song list is satisfying. Forget the “see him while he’s hot” show for fans of only the hits (not those with The Sickness)… it was satisfying for us who been there done that and contnbued doing it with him. I mean many don’t know Sometimes It Snows, Question Of U or even Shhh…they left the bandwagon way before that stuff and the die-hards said “f” the wagon and joined the band(A3000). BTW Insatiable was for you, you know who you are.

And his facial expressions of course are priceless. And he DOES look 44. A good 44 and that is cool. I love it. And as telling was the touching expression he received after performing Little Red Corvette. This ovation reception caused him to tear and he is going to do this every stop probably but wait…each and every ovation and reaction to it is going to be genuine because in that one moment everyone could see the emotion on his face and the tragedies, battles, loves, losses, and finally…dare I say it? Salvation….because this comes at an important moment in time for him and us as well. Its been so long and to see this happen is simulcast…its almost beyond. He deserves this regardless. His contribution deserves this re-recognition

And in the end watching him play around his horn section, do some new moves without having to jump off a speaker and strip down to a sleeveless to do some work was better than the freak...hell I didn’t even need a boa...its gotten to that point. His music and presentation stripped down of the excess is even better than all the glitter and purple studded trenchcoats. He is one of those artists where you have to see live before you die. You look and go he is such a badazz…damn near ever move is a dramatic you just keep focusing on him…and when he does that geetar you look at his fingers to see how he makes it do what it does. Because of this he deserves this massive acceptance of this tour and praise. He has his work cut out for him because from all accounts it looks like he is going to be on the road for quite some time. It seems like a daunting task because when he pulled out Purple Rain (stating “I love singing this song” for those who hold him to task) it seemed like he gave it his all in just expressing the emotion through the coda with just him and his mic telling the faithful to bring it some more. It looked physically as well as EMOTIONALLYdraining. And everybody lit their bics and waved their hands as if it was the first time they heard it and we all fell in love again with the song. It may be the Stairway To Heaven of the 80’s but its his and he has accepted it and he deserves to. And each night like last night he will rock the house and you…makin da fellas go “go ‘head your royal badness”, and making the ladies swoon…as he has been doing ever since, before honeys were wearin’ Sasoons…he raised his arms in boxer stance, Ali style as in "come on..come on" just for that split second and that stance means so much..it means 25 years of being in the ring...and he will be in that center of the round at the end-encore with a sophisticated and appreciative crowd because he deserves this.
