PRINCE'S ODE TO GOD

I've ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG!!! His vocals are amazing! So orgers how many songs has Prince recorded that you would confidently call an ode to God or an appreciation song for the most high??

In the beginning, there was God

He made the earth, and the heavens

He gave us light to rule the day

And another light to rule the night

The Lord, thy God

Made, He made the seas

He made the fruit upon the trees

When He saw, when He saw that it was good

He made a man, made a man

Only He could, only He could

God made u

God made me too

He made us all

Made us all equally

Now u say

God made u

God made me
He made us all equally

Wake up children

Dance the Dance Electric

There isn't much time

Who screamed?

Was it u?

I'd love to see him do a "Spiritual Compilation"
LGC (often overlooked as a song about God)
4 The Tears in Your Eyes (I LOVE this one; maybe most of all)
Elephants & Flowers (his most creative spiritual song i think)
Still Would Stand All Time (very heartfelt)
    The Cross (classic)
And God Created Woman (not so much about God per se, but still)
The Holy River (i need to go back and listen to this one more. I didn't care for Emancipation, so it didn't get much spin, but it SEEMS like a great spiritual song for a couple seeking to grow in God together)
Last December (something to think about fa sho!)
    Anna Stesia
I Wish U Heaven (an ode to God indirectly thru others)
Everywhere (too short, but powerfully beautiful)
    The Word
    Beautiful Love & Blessed
    Love

He already did something like this. The September 2001 edition's Audio show contained these type of songs. The month's releases were usually released in the latter part of the month, and 9/11 had just happened. The Ahdio show that month contained:

Intro feat. Ingrid Chavez ("Love thy will be done (Prince Mix)"/"I know"/"The Cross"/"The Plan") / "The Plan" by The NPG Orchestra / "Anna Stesia" / "Elephants and Flowers" / "I wish U heaven" / "Love thy will be done (Prince Mix)"[1:33]* / "Pearls b4 the swine" [3:01]** / "7 (Acoustic Version)" / "Space (Universal love Remix)" / "Still would stand all time" / "Into the light" / "I will" / "The holy river" / Outro ("The Plan/"Positivity").

Notes were:
*Edited / first part of official remix of Martika's "Love... thy will be done (Prince Mix)" [5:42], released in 1991.
**previously unreleased, finally released on "One Nite Alone" (2002)
All trax performed by Prince + released on various albums or maxis.

"Please respect this special and spiritual collection as reflection of the recent events! B careful, peace + Love4oneanother!"

Beautiful. Saw him per4m it live Purple Rain tour. It was amazing LIVE!
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

nod It's MY song.... see my signature.... no pretenders please wink

It captured my imagination, heart and soul when I first bought it back in the day, and made me a Prince fan for life... Scared the living daylights out of my friends though! lol I've seen it live (on film) but I adore and much prefer the recorded version, whatever place he was in when he recorded that just touched my heart and spoke to me really deeply. The instrumental and the vocal played one after the other (as they were on the 12") are absolutely sublime, hypnotic, and beyond beautiful, and the best things he's ever done in my opinion. Of course having Purple Rain on the A side was pretty cool too....

As much as I love God the Love Theme
God the Dance Electric is still my favorite
masterpiece from the Purple Reign
haunting like most of the music in the 83-85 period

ahaha I don't wanna know. But it's the reverse image of him on his bike from the PR album. The left bottom is his leg, the bottom right is the front wheel. You can see his head and the wind shield at the top, plus the pussy bar on the back of the bike to the left.

Most of the songs about GOD have been listed, although so many songs have a spiritual touch to them without direct lyrics about GOD...Whether it be, "Controversy," or "And God Created woman," or even, "With you."

I love "GOD," and "4 the tears in your eyes," as they are so heart warming. "Comeback," is also very spiritual. cool

I realize that "Controversy," has the prayer, "Our Father," in it...although the whole still carries the devotion. cool

thanks for the info. earnest but i don't think i'd count that "ahdio" playlist as official since I wasn't an NPGMC member. these songs make a good list. haven't heard that universal love mix of Space, but if the "general public" hasn't had a chance to hear the songs, then it still needs to be made available.

I wasn't a member either, but he released it as such regardless. And just as a note, HE spelled it "Ahdio", not "audio". Just so ya know that wasn't a typo on my part.

Prince has always done spiritual songs beautifully-it's an area that he really needs to do more in-his voice was made for it.

one of the things i love about P is his BRAND of gospel. he says Lovesexy WAS a gospel album. i wouldn't want him to "concede" and restrict himself to what ppl THINK gospel is supposed to sound like. i've wowed Christians who've believed the hype by playing some of P's diverse but blatantly GOSPEL songs.

btw Tonex, NOT Deitrick is closer to being P's gospel counterpart. esp. on his first album "Pronounced Toe-Nay". Deitrick is more the MJ of gospel
