Because as a whole...lyrically, musically and vocally...it sucked! shrug
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Musically, TRC is great stuff - I love the 'warm' and organic production.

But between the hilariously ill-conceived Darth Vader narration and the obnoxiously preachy lyrical content really sink the album for me.

Which is a shame, because there are some lovely vocal melodies on this album - I just find myself very put off by the extreme religious nature of the lyrics.
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

Love the album...Love the Narration.

This could be a movie..."The Rainbow Children," tells a great story. If it were a movie...It would need a few more songs to help realize the success of the work accomplished that leads to "The Everlasting Now."

And a couple of songs to tie the side story of the Muse and the Pharoah's marriage. cool

That sounds perfect Tame

I'm sick of folks saying 'Darth Vader' voice.

Since when did Mr Vader ever sound like a fucking retard? and "NOOOOO!" at the end of Sith doesn't count.

BTW, i love TRC.

The Rainbow Children again.....

Musically, the cd is one of his best. Sophisticated and beautifully executed. However, some of the lyrics are just plain silly, especially the "what the duck"? That's just plain stupid.

His guitar work is awesome, but l can definitely do without the JW type lyrics.

I wonder if someone slowed down the scream at the end of "Temptation" if it would sound like Darth's "NOOOOO" at the end of Sith? LOL

I remember when TRC came out, I sped up the intro to the album and heard Prince saying all that nonsense at regular speed. Sounded like a Tavis' interview. LOL

If you read the reasons here on the org, you get very different responses. Some say the deep voice is annoying, some say it is too religious, and others say it's dull.

Personally, I don't see how anyone can say it's not a good album. Listening to it as an album, it is one of Prince's best....ever.

I'd say it it is all of the above: annoying deep voice, waaay to religious, and it is dull musically. It seems to be written for JWs exclusively.

I think you have to have a bit of Mother Earth meets Jimi Persona to like it. I love the vibe of the back room saloon or Smoky Jo's Cafe.

I find certain lyrics annoying, but musically-speaking, I love it!

i had the thrill of attending the first 2 Celebrations. During the second one some of us got to sit in the studio to get a first listen to the album. Afterward i asked him why he chose the "Spooky Electric" kind of voice for the narration and he said he wanted to make sure it got your attention. i still have the lyric book they gave us so we could follow along.

i really like the album and even have the 2 disc vinyl edition as well. There is some silly stuff on it but most of the music is really well done. i especially love Muse 2 the Pharaoh.

I couldn't get into it, the low voice was so irritating. I wanted to buy it and would listen to it before purchasing it, but after a few tries over a year, I just couldn't buy it.
