fake?

I'd say. It's a Purple Rain era pic for one... wink

There is an interview on vinyl that uses a pic similar to that one. This one, for sure, is FAKE!

The original Black Album on vinyl.

I'd love to hear the original analog version of this album. There is something wrong in the way the '94 CD release sounds -- very flat, weak bass, cold, etc.
Anyone else agree?

I agree. I have a cd copy that is a boot and it sounds better than the WB version.

The released 1994 CD version and the 1987 CD-sourced bootlegs both suffer from very noticeable tape-hiss. To me, they sound pretty much the same. I'm sure that there are vinyl rips that have a different tonal quality to them, but I'm thinking that the original mastering is flawed on Prince's/WBs end.

Of course, various folks have "remastered" the Black Album to various degrees of success.

They sold these at the first celebration on tape for $2. Boxes and boxes of them. It's great when you can catch them unloading things from storage.

That's where I got my War CD. I received the War cassette with my Crystal Ball pre-order. I picked up the 2Gether and 16-track Goldnigga from the Uptown NPG Store.

Why I didn't buy multiples of each is beyond me. duh

Yeah I got the war cassette with CB. I either got the 2Gether CD at the online store or in the Camden NPG store, can't remember.

I saw a thread on colored vinyl recently, but can't find it now. Anyone? Is the Purple Rain LP on purple vinyl worth anything? Found one elsewhere for 80.00 USD.

How about the Truth CD single from early 97? That's got to be fairly rare, I would think.

And I hate to be skeptical, but is it not possible that the folks who think they've found the birthday edition of Gett Off for super cheap have actually just got the commerical release?

The Birthday one was with the Damn Near 10 Minute mix, and had a black & white sleeve, right?

Yes. None of the people have mentioned their "find" have specified, but I wouldn't be surprised if their copies are yellow.

What's the story behind this EP? I've seen pix, and I have the rip, but I'm in the dark as to where this was given out and how many were produced.

i dont blame you for being skeptical.. but i literally found the gett off birthday edition for 2.95!
when i got it, i wasnt sure what it was. i just knew that it was NOT the version that is so common (gold colored cover with purple letters).. the cover was white and the words in purple lettering were also different. i figured for 2.95, i may as well give it a try.. best find ive ever had!

it definitely happens now and then.. clearly the person selling the record to the store had no clue what they were selling. and the person pricing at the record store had no clue what they were pricing.

it pays to keep looking !!!!

I wish I had gotten this in 92 when I was in college. The guy at a local music store had it and I didn't get it because of my lack of funds.

i actually have two of these i bought in MPLS when it was released (one of em, i guess i could part with now.) what a cool time that was, to be in town at The Convention during D&Ps release. the poor neighbors at the hotel tho. things were bangin loud into those nights. and thanks to the X GF who left behind her copy when we split because she "had the regular CD" i offered her up. smile

Was there a Prince convention in Minneapolis at the time of D&P? I went to the one at Glam Slam when prince was coming out. The entire NPG was there sans Prince. It was also Carmen Electra's first(?) public appearance. She was freaking gorgeous.

I swear that I saw one of those paisley D&P wooden boxes at the NPG Store in Uptown, which cemented in my mind that it was official. Turns out it wasn't.
