I'm sure that there are vinyl rips that have a different tonal quality to them, but I'm thinking that the original mastering is flawed on Prince's/WBs end.

Of course, various folks have "remastered" the Black Album to various degrees of success.

it definitely happens now and then.. clearly the person selling the record to the store had no clue what they were selling. and the person pricing at the record store had no clue what they were pricing.

it pays to keep looking !!!!
