Actually, I was hoping we'd be done with the assembly line negativity towards his "product". But, I guess I was wrong...

If u are so disapointed with prince's work for the last oh 8 to 10 years why don't u move on to something else instead of belittleing the man's life work. It takes a real ignorant SOB to feel so entitled to piss on other peoples artistic endeavors.

Respectfully.....that's NO come back. The first five alone are utter garbage. The NPGMC: Quantity doesn't equal QUALITY. He released a lot of garbage through NPGMC, and only a few gems. VERY few. Indigo - dismiss. There's maybe 2 albums in that which have aged decently and are still listenable.

The m id 90's was a fantastic time, and that includes through Emancipation and Crystal Ball (just for the sheer fact that we finally got a few bootlegs in clean quality). Rave IN2 and Un2 weren't bad sets, and despite the GREAT songs not being singles, they were still great songs. NPS - eh, we know.

This debate rages on. But no way was the 00's a comeback. It was his weakest decade yet. I hope the '10s are better.

Well if that were the case, half of Prince.org wouldn't exist. But we live in a world where free speech about someone like Prince is in full effect. You're free to disagree; but it doesn't have be made PERSONAL. Calling someone a son of a bitch is way too extreme just because a Prince fan isn't happy with the past decade of output from that artist. I don't like Prince's output since 2001 either, Doesn't make me a bastard because of it. Makes me different than someone else, and what better way to live life than by marching to your own drummer.

with al due respect. i'm not some prince drone and when i don't like stuff,
i'll gladly say so (i dislike musicology except for 2 songs, same thing goes
for planet earth).

but what makes "the rainbow children", which is musically a very intricate
and well arranged album, "utter garbage"?

lol

is it the lyrics? i won't even debate those. people seem to want to hear
all kinds of hateful and racist things in them. i won't even bother to
talk about that anymore. but what else could possibly make that album a
piece of garbage?

the "one nite alone" piano album has great songs. a few silly ones and a
horrible lyric (i can put my load in the dryer). but the overall album
is something different compared to what he usually does. plus there are
a few absolute great songs on there, one being the title track. i see it
as a companion piece to "the truth", which is one of the few album from
the late 90's that i think are actually deserving of the term 'classic'.

N.E.W.S., whatever you make of it, at least is not as dull or flat as a
lot of the npgmc songs (i agree with you that most of those are bad).
Xpectation and Cnote, imo, are great. I listen to those more than i do
to Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

the late 90's were cool enough but after the driven, inspired songs he
recorded from 1993-1995, emancipation and nps and rave and later a lot
of the npgmc material all sounded quite lazy. there are incredible and
absolutely classic songs on all of them, but they are few and far between.

not a lot of the material released post '00 can rival with the 93-95 NPG
sound but imo the 1996-2000 material is far too bland and flat. at least
he found some kind of compositorial groove back in 01 with TRC.

still, eventhough i don't really like that whole sound of 96-00 i also
can't say that i 'hate' any of that stuff or think it's 'garbage'. i can
roll my eyes sometimes and think "lord, that's a far cry from some of
your better work man" but i can still happily listen to anything that he
released, save perhaps 10 songs in total over his entire career.

that may be the difference. perhaps it's just semantics. i don't know.
but it always amazes me how people can simply write of entire albums or
entire era's with terms like that. don't you like ANYTHING on for instance
the rainbow children? or one nite alone?

beatdeadhorse It's been covered ad nauseum, by the lovers and the haters of TRC.

I can sort of deal with "She Loves Me 4 Me", but in the context of a whole album, that's not a lot. I'd sacrifice it to never have to deal with that album again.

I don't like anything on One Nite Alone. The live bootleg of "A Case of U" from 1983 is still superior to his official cover of it in 2002. Nothing appeals to me on that album. I'm a musician, centralized on the piano, and I love piano music. One Nite Alone was a HUGE let down.

N.E.W.S. Throw away stuff, just like Xpectation and C-note.

Yeah, I fail 2 understand how the poster can call 'Lotusflow3r' "assembly line sounding"... WOW. Wait. What about 'The Rainbow Children'.

Actually nothing from Prince sounds like any kind of assembly line.

ok, different people, different tastes.

it just hit me that it's been a long ass dry spell concerning "good" prince
music for you if you dislike/hate all those albums though. damn.

did you like 3121? even if you did, that's about 6 years of music you don't
like. damn.

no matter how many people will call you "a hater" regarding your dislike of
albums, i say you're a hardcore trooper for hanging on so long to see if
he would release anything else you would really dig.

I've hung on this long (since 1979), why not a few more freakin' decades. LOL
