I think he might be serious.... someone please amuse him..... Amuse me, my foot! Answer my question - who else could make a guitar sound like that? Have you heard it before? Perhaps this orger can't (or won't let himself) hear this sound.

Now at this point someone will usually
run off and go marinate on something to say in a very subversive underhanded way... earwig-ing is the term used i think or they might come back with a indirect comment on another post somewhere else or even a poem maybe... Oh and then a moderator blind to this behaviour will come along and say that I am doing something wrong or something bizarre like that.. its a bit like a boxer still kicking into the unconscious guy on the floor. while the referee has their back turned. its all very interesting

well, if you've been tagged by a moderator before, maybe you got a case of "but ya are, Blanche, ya are!" (And this comment took me all of a minute to think of and write out.) Maybe you're bored or something...I'm just sayin'...

back to the subject - has anyone ELSE on the org heard another guitar genius make such sounds with a guitar? It's not that new of an idea and plenty have altered their guitar to sound weird, or not like a guitar. Go listen to Boston's Third Stage album. That album sounds like it has synths all over it, and all kinds of different instruments. You know what they are? Guitars. Read the liner notes.

Well no, his statement implied that Prince had somehow, in the history of music, had magically come up with that sound on a guitar. My retorts weren't mean. I just tried to point him in a direction of others who have been very experimental and had "OMG" moments on guitar as well. I have to say, although I'm not a Boston fan (I mentioned their album), I did listen to it once years ago. I read the liner notes and listened to each song. It was VERY interesting. I remember at that time (it was about 1994 I think), that I had never heard someone do THAT with a guitar in a song. It was an ear opening experience.

It's all good - people are entitled to take swipes, but it's the evidence that I listen to. What this did get me thinking about is the effect that Prince has been lifting from Eddie Van Halen. Think about their cover version of "You Really Got Me" - as the guitar solo is ending. Prince did the same thing after the end of his performance of Dreamer on Leno. He also did this at the end of his "Fury" performance, as well as a number of recent songs he's done.
