New Kristen Scott Thomas Quote about Prince

Not sure if someone's already posted this, but here goes:

Your movie debut was as a topless French socialite in Prince's notorious bomb "Under the Cherry Moon" in 1986. How was that?

People just hated the film. It was a real baptism of fire as far as I'm concerned. I got the reviews you dread. From then on, I thought, "I'm never going to read reviews of the theater I do and only read reviews about films I don't really mind about."

Have you kept in touch with Prince? I read that the song "Better With Time," on his last album, was an ode to you.

If it's true, it's fantastic. He came to see "The Seagull" [when Scott Thomas was acting on Broadway last year] and was completely wowed by it. A lot of people knew what we were doing and he just turned up. He is incredibly intelligent and talented - if he's written a song for me, it's just the most wonderful present. He's just brilliant, brilliant, brilliant at what he does. What's really great about getting older is that down the road you meet people you haven't seen for a long time and they're still doing something you really admire.

I like that Prince is so cultured, seeing non-mainstream plays on broadway and watching Fellini. cool

I absolutely love "Better with time" was this song written for/about her?

Why is Prince pining for all these actresses?

Bad acting and horrible death scene aside, I actually genuinely liked UTCM. boxed

Stylistically I thought it was beautiful, and had some great lines which I ocassionally quote to others leaving them confused...

The first time I saw it I was only around 12, and had no more prince than the cassette of the prince album. So by all rights I should have hated it.

Not that I plan on putting it on any of my favourite movie lists or anything. wink

She's really developed into one of the world's greatest actresses. Rent "Tell No One" (brilliant movie) and "I've Loved You For So Long" (she should've been nominated for Oscar) for two of her recent highlights.

I wish Prince would incorporate some of these references (Fellini, Warhol, Broadway) into his work. IMO, he's drifted from the sophisticated SOTT to less introspective and interesting songwriting. If I Was Your Girlfriend, Dorothy Parker are two of the greatest pop songs ever written.

I agree. I think a lot of whats become of his musical direction of late has to do with his environment. LA doesn't exactly inspire high art. It's be great if he would relocate again. Or if he stayed for a few months in one place to put together an album like Paris, Berlin, Venice, Barcelona, Lisbon, Cairo.... or maybe the opposite of an urban environment, say the countryside someplace, I think he could turn out another masterpiece, not just musically, but most importantly lyrically, where he's been the least impressive since the 90's (with a few exceptions here or there).

If I didn't think he'd be too much of a priss to handle the atmosphere, I honestly believe Prince could come up with some amazing sounds if he spent some time in, say, a log cabin way up north. Like, close to the Canadian Territories north. Such a huge shift in environment like that could jolt something really amazing out of the little guy. Either that, or he'd piss and moan about the lack of nightclubs up north. Or freeze to death. razz

Seriously though, a dramatic shift in locale could throw a little inspiration his way. Who knows? Maybe the Next Great Prince Album is to be found in the Swiss Alps or small town Arkansas or on a ship at sea. shrug

Cool to hear Prince and Kristen are still cool with each other, even if they don't associate much.

Kristen is a wonderful actress and has made many a bad film worth watching just to see her performance. The Academy Awards Association or whatever they call themselves have overlooked her far too often.

I had the same experience. I think people were just expecting to see Purple Rain in black and white.
