The Hits vol. 3 & 4

We all know this will never happen , but if it did here is my track listing starting where 1 & 2 left off in 1993 :

The Hits vol. 3

1. The Most Beautiful Girl in the World
2. Letitgo
3. Get Wild
4. Space
5. Loose
6. Lovesign
7. I Hate U
8. Shhh!
9. P Control
10.319
11.Days of Wild
12.I Like it There
13.Same December
14.Betcha by Golly Wow
15.Somebody's Somebody
16.Holy River
17.The Truth

The Hits vol. 4

1. The One
2. Come On
3. The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
4. Hot with U
5. The Work pt.1
6. Musicology
7. Call my Name
8. Cinnamon Girl
9. Song of the Heart
10.Black Sweat
11.Fury (SNL version)
12.The Dance
13.Guitar
14.Future Baby Mama
15.The One U Wanna C
16.Dreamer
17.Dance 4 Me

Since Prince owns the masters to all of these songs he could release this on any label he wanted. This set would be good for those who remember these songs , but had no clue what album they came from. One day Prince will break down and give the fans every remastered cd/greatest hits compilation he can come up with , but that day is not now.

Prince doesn't want to earn money from his records.
Yet he want to be `number 1 at the bank` via other means. Expensive books, tickets, 21 nights, etc.

He doesn't market his music for full financial effect (except certain one-off exceptions) in a consistent manner. Since he left WB stuff has been somewhat different...

They're not all hits.
Maybe not even singles.
So maybe wait a few years?

The Hits 3, should really be the best of prince, 1993-2000. PLENTY of hits and good stuff there, including some NPG stuff. The Hits 4 won't be due for another few years and even then it'd be a stretch to find songs for it. Although Hits 4 would probably be a bunch of NPGMC schlock. barf

i like this a lot. lots of people post threads like this but their versions
of the hits 3 and/or 4 are usually very inconsistent.

you've made a good selection there of most tracks that were either singles,
videos or otherwise had special attention focussed on them during the promo
of the album they came from.

the only possible changes you could make would be to include "dolphin" and
"dinner with delores" on disc one instead of "loose" and "same december"
since the first two were official releases (video and single resp) and the
latter two weren't. i'd also choose "gold" (a top 10 charting single) over
319 or P control.

on disc two, perhaps "the dance", "future baby mama" and "dreamer" could
be replaced with "te amo corazon" and "crimson and clover" and "chocolate
box" since they were all singled out as singles/videos.

however, i also agree with you that in some cases an obscure album track
would fit better than a mediocre single. "dreamer" would find much more
of a favorable response with a large public than "choc box" etc.

anywho. i'm just saying change this and that but in the meantime i'm gonna
track this on an mp3 disc to play in my car. good selection.

thumbs up!

I couldn't agree more, for years I have been bashing that album, and now in the past two months I have started listening to it and actually beginning to like it, and realising its place in the Prince catalogue. Songs like Last December, She loves me for me, 1+1+1 = 3 and The Everlasting Now could go on any greatest hits listing.

Most of us wouldn't need a greatest hits carry on set anuway, we have ipod shuffle. Its Prince Salad is on my ipod all the time. Last 5 songs I listened to in that order.
Last December
I wanna be your lover
Animal Kingdom
Chocolate Box
Play in the Sunshine (As chosen by my Ipod)
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time
