I was at the filming of the Beautiful Experience when the song was premiered and loved it instantly. Too bad it didn't end up on the Gold Experience. It's been a long time, but wasn't it replaced by Pussy Control? In TGE cd booklet where a page is blank, it seems like at the time I heard that is where the lyrics for Days of Wild were but had been taken out. There is definitely a studio version of this song that was played at after parties. TRUE BLUE

Interactive was on TGE wasn't it ,and Prince thought it didn't work back to back with Endorphinmachine, so he took it off and put on P Control? I'm always confused about that. I think Days of Wild would have fit perfect where "Now" is on TGE. I love "Now" but "Days of Wild" on there. HOT.

u lucky mutherfunka u were at the taping . Damn wish I could've been there. thanks for the info. I had to pay 100.00 for the ticket but it was well worth it. There were a lot of celebrities there. Eric Leeds and his band were playing in one of the rehearsal rooms before Prince performed. They had copies of TMBGITW for sale and it hadn't been released yet, although it was shortly after. They had the different studios open to check out. Needless to say I didn't do too much sight seeing because I made a bee line to the front of the stage. I made it into the Beatiful Experince film, during The Jam. The camera cuts to the audience a few times and I was in every shot. I was very excited at the time. LOL One of my Prince concert highlights! I was very glad to see that Tony, Damon, and Kirk were no longer in the picture. Although Tony did perform before Prince, just not with him. Levi was gone as well. TRUE BLUE

THE DAWN 3cd bootleg, includes the greatest (fanmade) version, based on the Crystal Ball version and some extended live guitar playing, REALLY great version imo even though it's not "real",
I love the studio version too, a shame it was deleted from The Gold Experience album. Prince 4Ever.

He would play Days of Wild ALL the time, the more I think about it I also remember hearing he didn't want to give the song to Warner Bros. which makes more sense than him thinking the song was not good enought for the project, escpecially since Shy was put on there. "Shy" is the only dreck on that album. I don't think I ever ripped it to iTunes. For me, it's non-existent in the track list.

It's CRIMINAL that the studio version was not released on The Gold Experience. Apparently the version from the Fantasia boot is taken from a test pressing CD of The Gold Experience, any truth to this at all?

For me, it's non-existent in the track list. it's worth saving for the breezy guitar alone. the lyrics are a bit iffy but it's a nice enough song. 'we march' has more of a cringe factor imo. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

What ? Shy is very beautiful ! Anyway my live version of Days of Wild (02/14/1994) sounds better recording than the studio version I've heard. But still I'd like a "good" studio version if it exists any where...

But still I'd like a "good" studio version if it exists any where... hey, you misquoted, i never said that "shy" is a bad song i can never remember what live version it is but i have a live version of Days of Wild from one of the Glam Slam shows and it clocks in at something like 11:41 or something. it contains portions of 777-9311 and hair and it ends with one hell of a guitar/bass solo by prince. it's followed by a lengthy version of NOW with a very cool break in the middle that leads into Babies Makin Babies. one of my fav performances by prince ever. he sounds on fire. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

It's true that the studio version of "Days of Wild" was originally intended to
be on The Gold Experience. However, it wasn't replaced by anything else, it was simply deleted from the tracklist (along with it's accompanying NPG Operator segue) just prior to release. It's placement on the album was in between "We March" and "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World".

Boris, what do you think is the most likely speculation for it being deleted from the tracklist? Did Prince really think it was one of the strongest songs on the set so decided to not let WB have it on the released version? While it is obviously legendary to us fans I suppose you could argue it's a bit of a plodder and negative critics would say it's yet another attempt at hip-hop.
I'm guessing Prince did not have a problem with it's content (lyrics and subject matter), as it's pre-aversion to cursing and no more or less fierce than something like Face Down. Its subject veers from slight social commentary (hip-hop black stereotypes, women objectification) to Prince bragging (his sensitivity, style, clothing and coolness), again nothing that more or less different to what he has explored on other tracks. Was it just a random Prince "up-yours. this is too good" type of thing? Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I'm pretty sure the song was actually pulled due to negative critical response.
Plus, from what I've heard, Prince was never 100% satisfied with the studio version, and had made several versions of it. The song was always a real stormer live, but somehow it never quite seemed to work as well in the studio. Critics singling the track out as being not up to standard just reinforced the reservations Prince already had about the version of the track (not the track itself), so he decided to pull it. I expect at the time he fully intended to rework or rerecord the track for the next release.

Love the live versions and I love the studio version. I put it on my itunes playlist before Now operator.
Great track. Love the jazzy piano notes and Fx on the studio version. Pity he removed it. It really adds to the album. From what I read at the time, he loved playing it live but felt he couldn't capture it's energy in studio and therefore pulled the studio version from the final playlist. Yes, in their track-by-track review, New Musical Express was one of them being extremely negative towards Days Of Wild: "Track 5. DAYS OF WILD WEAKEST TRACK on the album. Prince is rapping. Meant to sound bad-assed but it just sounds hollow." from NME review, 11 march 1995, page 37, Prince is on the front cover with Slave written on his face, pic from the Brit awards 1995. There's just one studio version I know of, where Prince is almost talking the lyrics instead of coming closer to rapping them like the live version. IMO, it's not a better version, especially knowing the energy Prince puts into it in a live performance.

"Dolphin" is a great song because it really speaks to his struggle with WB. It's a direct, open letter, to WB.

I don't know why "We March" gets so much negativity and hate from folks. I've always heard how people don't like that one. For me it fits right in, and it picks up where "Race" left off, lyrically.

I like the whole album, but I always thought "We March" was a little cheesy lyrically and trying a bit too hard. I like the intro though. "My God it's full of Stars"
