Remastered CDS via Prince

Just wondering when he does remaster, how will he distribute the CDs? Will it be like current CDs where their in the stores for 1 year or so? Then only get them through his website? If he can't trust WB (or fill in the blank) to distribute his CD's fairly. Meaning that some have suggested that there are several different UPC codes for Purple Rain. Some UPC codes the artist gets money from each sale, oddly some of the different UPC codes can be used to sale a CD-where the Record Co. can steal the artists portion and retain all funds of the sale of the CD. This has been suggested not confirmed. Point being, what is the best way to handle this issue?

Also,FYI: If Prince wants a top 10 hit multi-platinum CD again all Prince has to do is tour and charge two ticket prices 66 bucks for standard and 1 dollar per ticket more to receive the new CD.

As long as he doesn't approach his remastering of older albums like his remastering of his old hit, 1999.

1999-The New Master only reinforces the view amongst many fans (myself included), that he doesn't have nearly the same level of respect for those old songs that even his own fans do.

Or that he edits out the curse words, and/or rerecords certain lines Larry Graham finds objectionable. If that were the trade off, I'll stick with the original copies.

And yes, the "1999" redo was reDONKulous.

I think the industry changed it's rules after the Musicology giveaway. If Prince wants to package CDs and tickets again, the CD will not chart.

Regarding remasters: Let's just assume we will never see them as long as Prince and WB can't compromise. And as stated above, Prince's current beliefs may be the real issue we need to worry about concerning his back catalog.

Prince gets the rights to his For You masters in a few years, but who's really excited about that?
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Indeed it has. Prince suckered the system, and that's the reason by Musicology was #3. After the tour, the album dropped dramatically in the charts, all because it wasn't being sold 20,000 at a time, every other night of the week. It would have NEVER been that high otherwise.

The system has since changed and that trickery isn't allowed anymore. Yes, they could sell the CD with a ticket, included all in the price, but it would not reflect as such on the charts. A lot of casual listeners that would go to a Prince show are not people who give a shit about his latest release. They're still listening to "Kiss" and "Cream". And that's fine, but if it were up to each and every person in those audiences to chose if they wanted Musicology or not, I bet half would have said "no, thanks, I'm good."

So in short, kewlschool.....the ticket thing doesn't work anymore.

Who says he's going to? If he got the masters back, there's no saying he's going to do anything with them other than sit on them.

And really, do we trust Prince, alone, to remaster and re-release these records the way they deserve - he can't even put up a website without it creating mass negative feedback, repeatedly. Turning the volume upto eleven and editing out the swear words isn't my idea of the perfect treatment for these records.

ernestsewell,
I believe the ticket rules have changed, but the rule (I believe) is that the artist has to charge two separate ticket prices one with the cd in the price and a price without CD. I don't know if the Cd add on price has to be a certain amount though. They may have to charge the price of the CD at retail level (10 bucks at least) Because if it wasn't a restriction, I'm certain older acts ACDC/Rollingstones/U2 etc. would do the same move and have the two prices. It only works if Prince can charge 1 dollar more for the CD.

The sales still won't reflect on the charts. If you're charging a higher price just to get a CD, why not just sell it at the concession counter w/ all the other merchandise?

I wouldnt trust Prince's 50 year ears anymore. He uses way to much bass and records way too loud. Everything since Musicology is basically unlistenable on headphones unless you have $100 headphones.
