TRC and Lotus can't be compared...

To very different eras, styles....

Whyever not? Surely, if they were'nt different there would be no point in comparing them.

Dude. Decaf. Seriously.

Well, basically any song from any Prince album since TRC (not counting in ONA and the live stuff) would have sort of fitted on any of the other albums, if we're honest about it...

Most songs on TRC and Lotusflow3r aren't even that abstract, it's just that there are more segues / intros / outros on them that make it seem like they were more freeform than what they actually are. Well, just my view on it really - yours may differ.

I really feel that 4 songs from Lotusflow3r could have been on The Rainbow Children CD.

From the Lotus
Feel better, Feel good... ( It sounds like twin of The Work pt.1, but much better!)
Love like Jazz
Back to the Lotus.
One can also claim that 77 Beverly Park is in a similar category.

What do you think?

From the Lotus and Back 2 the Lotus were a part of the original song the Rainbow Children. They were edited out of the song 4 the cd release.

Not true... they're 2 completely different tracks, recorded at different times
with different backing bands.

You're pulling that out of your back side. That's not even close to the truth. Funny though.

I should have included an "It seems 2 me" with that quote.
I have the actual mix, and while I hear what u guys are saying, it sounds like the same song 2 me.

Assuming you actually possess this heretofore unknown recording, it's certainly possible Prince could have lifted bits of melody from it for the new songs.
it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

When u hear it it as one song.....I'd say there is a great possibility of that.

Y'know...I listened to The Rainbow Children (the song) for the first time about a week ago and thought (right around 8:10), "Geez...this sounds a lot like From the Lotus." hmmm

The organ sounds the same; both the instrument setting itself and where it sits in the mix. I think he's playing a different guitar though. I agree the music itself sounds a lot like the TRC era material.

We should consider that even if it's not a literal edit from the original 'The Rainbow Children' song, it could share some instrument tracks in common and could have been worked on, had new tracks added to it, later. Or, Prince could have just borrowed lines of melody from it. Or, it could be literally just an edit from the end of the original song. Or, Graycap23 could be delusional. biggrin

Stop posting lies then! That example Marco mentioned, from your claims about Planet Earth prior to its release are a perfect example.

Well, I'm not trying to, so that's good. But seriously: you consistently make these claims, and you've never once proven anything. Does it surprise you that people are calling foul?

You claim to possess a longer version of the song than anyone has ever known existed.

A factual claim is still a claim. We don't have any evidence.

And never will. TRC and Lotus have nothing in common beyond the performer.
