He should have used the triple CD jewel case.
My LOtUSFLOW3R CDs are slighly scratched due to the piece of crap cardboard he used to package them.

I miss the jewel cases too ... I think it's an environmental/cost issue.
you might have to purchase them separately.

Getting an album just isn't the same as it used to be. No more big artwork, big lyric jacket inside, no more LABEL (remember when "I Wish U Heaven" and "Scarlet Pussy" had totally different labels on either side?") Just a plastic disk with tiny little printed stuff on it.
The art of artwork has been lost on digital downloads, digipaks, and mp3s.

When I picked up my cd, I was a bit dissapointed in the cardboard cover at first. Then, I realized that it probably wouldn't have been offered at such a low price if it came in a fancy case. As soon as I got home, I downloaded it onto my iPod and put the cd's away, so it really didn't matter anyway. Although, I do miss liner notes...and lyrics would've been nice too.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with the cardboard cases...I really think the "N.E.W.S." cd is cool the way it opens up.
They sell those plastic cd cases in packs of ten several places as I remember. I bought ten neon ones for 5 dollars a few years ago. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I think they still sell Jewel cases seperately for those that want to hold on to the memories, but Less is more these days when it coes to packaging.

digipaks are fine with me. but there really needs to be some kind of tray for discs to sit in. White Flags of Winter Chimneys basically has the same packaging, but is much better for having a tray for the disc to sit in.
sliding discs in and out of paper or cardboard slots is going to ruin the cd after awhile. this trend is especially annoying when it comes to buying deluxe, double disc remaster limited collector's edition, etc., discs.... you pay $20 to $30 for this deluxe packaging, only to open it up and realize that it's nearly useless as a tool for storing a CD because you're sliding the discs in and out of an envelope. I thought people use these now instead of carrying the whole CDs around.

Personally, I like the digipack a lot better. The plastic cases always end up getting cracked anyway. Plus, I think the digipack is better for the environment in the long run.

You are correct. Plastics are just plain no good. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

Environmental reasons, I do perfectly understand. But in fact, I'm a nostalgia-addict, so I really do miss jewel cases, and above all I'm thinking about my now-hard-to-find copy of Sign O' The Times as a double disc in a jewel case, about the luxurious The Hits/The b-sides 3 disc set, Emancipation, the psychedelic Crystal Ball (which had been available in 2 different physical editions, one round and one a regular jewel case).
But what I miss the most is the vinyl with big sized pictures, readable liner notes, posters inside and other goodies U could find. Got ur eyes wet, huh? Nevermind, I accept the digipak too, I'm ready to buy the new Prince album the way it comes out, but my memories are for me and I'll always keep my jewel cases. [Edited 5/4/09 5:55am]

I'd pay more for a jewel box any day. The artwork and discs last much longer, is it cost effective to replace your favorite CDs because they are damaged over time, or to simply replace a jewel box? It's a no-brainer! Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

Try squeezing the digipack into one, though... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

You are correct. Plastics are just plain no good. Using more cardboard uses more trees... Trees breathe in that evil carbon we're all afraid of and breath out... OXYGEN!! Just sayin', tired of the industry acting like it's saving the planet using less plastic but more paper products... It's absurd. Don't hate your neighbors. I don't hate the digipaks but I agree that jewelcases are better.
But even the albums with jewel cases don't look that great. I mean it's a piece of plastic 12x12 cm or something like that. I miss the big vinyl covers, back in those days one got a nice big cover. When the cd took over they should've continued to use big covers. Not necessarily as big as the vinyl covers but significantly bigger than the jewelcase/digipak covers.

And that's more plastic in the environment. When my band released our CD, we decided to go with the eco wallet, too. We've never been told our project looks cheap--in fact, quite the opposite. To each his/her own. . . Clarification: A "digi-pack" is this (a mix of plastic and recycled cardboard): An "eco-wallet" is this (all cardboard): [Edited 5/4/09 8:33am]

I agree with the jewel cases.
Of course it's less `artsy` or whatever a didipak/pack/whatever can bring to the mix. Just gimme the CD's and a nice booklet. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

It's not about protecting the CD, the digipaks do that. It's about the packaging itself. I actually like special packaging and stuff, but yeah, it's a pain to store, if it's a slightly odd size or taller than regular CD cases, the edges are in danger of getting skuffed or bent easily.

True and not only that but it's very easy 2 get the cd scratched. However, it is more environmentally friendly 2 make it out of paper...bcause u c it's biodegradeable...and everything that is sold is better of being recyclable. As a Graphic Designer eye had 2 learn all about this.
