I can remember the first time I listened to the extended version of "America" and the b-side "Girl". I was in heaven off of those two tracks alone.

There are very few I would skip. I was just listening to some of the SOTT B-sides and extended versions last night. Good memories attached to good songs.

As a collector, I don't miss them. It's hard enough to keep up with the ones already out there without having to worry about new ones Just kidding. We all miss them, moreso the extended versions as opposed to the remixes.

I only miss the extended versions up until about lovesexy. up to that point his extended versions left the MOR versions in the dust. Prince was truly great, who else took great music and made it that much better? The man was absolutely unstoppable and relentless. Those are the things that make it very easy to forgive his quirks and shortcomings.

I think we get them as the released track now. For example, Never B Another and Choco Box are both near 7mins. They feel extended to me. So, I just think that he doesn't singularly release them because now that he's free, he can add them in full.

On the other side, he needs to extend certain tracks! Black Sweat stretched to 8mins would destroy his back catalogue of funk going by the live extended version.

Also, you could say Disco Jellyfish is the extended (even more so) version of Choco Box. Merge them together like i have to create an outstanding Tech-funk work out!

yeah some of the more recent songs could have been given a few remixes
or an extended version on a single.

one of the ones best suited for remixing and stretching out was 2006's
"black sweat".

the 8+ minute live version he did at the beverly hills hotel 06-27-'06
kicks my ass every time i hear it. he should have released a studio or
at least a soundboard version of that.

the bass on it is w.i.l.d. love love love it.

the song "3121" could have been stretched out, just like in concert.
although i imagine an extended studioversion with more lyrics, more
cryptic babbling, reversed bass solo's and renato spacing out beyond
reach.

eventho i don't like the song too much, "musicology" would have been
a good contender for a "kiss extended" kind of treatment.

out of the new songs i think the only one i would like to see longer
is "boom", but not in an extended version or anything, just a little
bit longer. it ends way to abruptly.

The death of the single has caused this.

Ahh the glorious days of the extended maxi-single with off album B-side. The 80's and early 90's were great cause that was a little extra treat to look forward to when you went to pick a new single.

Just thinking about the first time I saw and purchased a twelve inch version brings back memories. Hell yeah I miss those! My first one was the extended Rasberry Baret.

Yes Yes and yes again. I miss those '12 versions that were always released with the singles back in the days. Not to mention that almost every time Prince released a new single you would get a bonus B side attached. I looked forward to each and every one of them. For me it was "Anotherloverholeinyohead" that song still rocks after all these years.
Now if somehow, someway there was an actual release of a collection of the '12 versions and there B sides.

Sure I miss them, but then the point about the full versions being on the albums nowadays is a good one. Back in the day I always thought of the 12" versions of the songs as being the 'original' versions, with the albums and 7"s simply just edits...

Some great memories though - breaking open the America 12" to see the track time printed on the label! And playing the I Wish U Heaven 12" for the first time and pulling funky faces at the switch up from cutesy ballad to funk workout as Part 2 kicked in !!! Happy days...
