This Triple-Threat show was great. 1983 Met Center, Bloomington, Minnesota. My wife was at that concert.
There's now a fucking IKEA where the Met Center used to be. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's well within the rules to talk about the live performance you've seen. You'd have see it to truly appreciate it but I'll try to do it justice with just my words... The year is 1983. The place in Minneapolis. It looks like it's at an arena of some sort. It's starts off dark with just the band on stage playing...then suddenly I heard Prince in the dark say, "Is everybody ready to work?" the crowd screams and yells but not loud enough for Prince because he then says, "I said, "Is everybody ready to work!" The crowd goes ape shit! Then Prince says, "Come on...LET'S WORK!!!" The lights come up and there's Dez, Andre, Dr. Fink, Matt (I think) on the drums and Lisa...all going to work! As the groove begins, the spotlight hits Prince, who is on some sort of divider above the band. He's looking so very, very fine! He's rocking the long tight curled perm, the long purple trench coat with the silver studs on the shoulder, black tight pants that snap on the side and black heeled boots. As the band rocks, Prince walks the divider toying with the crowd, throwing kisses and sexy poses here and there. Then he runs and jumps on this fireman's pole looking thing and spins around it as he slides down it. When he gets to the bottom of it, he puts his finger on his chin and looks around with that little coy ass grin like he doesn't know what he's going to do next. Then he leaps up and does a high jump off the drummer's platform and lands center stage right in front of his microphone and he starts singing... I've had my eyes on you ever since you walked in the room C'mon & take my hand, don't try to understand oh baby nothing can stop us now, I'm gonna show you how show you how to work c'mon let's have some fun, we'll work till morning comes lemme see ya work I'd love to turn you on, I'd work you all night long if I could get you in the raw, I'd make you climb the walls oh yeah nothing can stop us now, I'm gonna show you how show you how to work c'mon let's have some fun, we'll work till morning comes yeah, yeah, lemme see ya work, c'mon! Let's Work Let's Work... Dance break...Andre, Prince and Dez strutting, kicking, legs cris-cross hopping, styling and profiling...sexiness oozing out of every single pore! Prince grabs his mic and then really goes to work!!! Here is where I'll have to leave my little raving review because I simply can't keep my eyes off the screen long enough to describe it...just know the rest of it is fucking fabulous!!! That's what Prince should be putting up on his damn website! He could get my 77.00 for the chance to see more of that in hi-res!! Sounds like you saw some of the Homecoming Show from the "1999-Triple Threat" tour the entire thing starts with Vanity 6 then the Time and finally Prince comes out. Excellent show by the way. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

There's now a fucking IKEA where the Met Center used to be. I heard about the show because he brought that tour to Detroit. My cousin and her friends went. I was only 13 and my mother wouldn't let me go as she put it, "To see some girlie ass man that wore more eyeliner than she did with a bunch of hot ass heffas!" What can I say...Mama was a trip! I remember my cousin raving about that show for weeks afterward! Now I truly understand why!! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

My wife asked me to go (back then she was my girlfriend), and I had some stupid reason that I couldn't go. I was a teenage guy in high school... and I missed Vanity 6. Get that "Homecoming" DVD if you get the chance. I think it's the only DVD that has all three sets. I picked mine up at a local recka stow for 20 bones. There's probably other ways to get it cheaper, but then it might be over compressed. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Ok, so I of course went to look for it but couldn't find it. Is it still there? I found a HOT 1981 performance though (shit quality unfortunately). "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

And I found another one from '81 (Houston). It's almost identical to the earlier one (Washington), but better sound although not as good a performance IMO. Sounds from your desciption as if he kept the exact same moves from the Controversy topur version through the 1999 tour, Towards the end there's a bit where Dez pushes him to the floor and grabs the mic to sing the chorus and then P gets back up and pushes him back. Did they keep that in '83? Edit: OK, finally found the '83 version (silly me ). Love how his dancing improves over these years - he swaps Mick Jagger and Bowie for JB...Still I think i prefer the earlier ones. I'm pretty sure Andre is Andre. Now I could be mistaking on Dez. You're right about Bobby and Matt...I always forget Dr. Fink's first name is Matt...sorry Doc! Now that I've looked at the rest of it. I'm pretty sure Dez is Dez and I'm mistaken on Andre. [Edited 5/16/09 19:40pm] Andre Cymone's last professional performance with P was on June 3, 1981 on the Dirty Mind European tour in Paris France. (He played with Prince and Dez at Dez's wedding but that doesn't count! ) Mark Brown a.k.a Brown Mark took Andre's place BEFORE the Controversy album was even released. So the lineup that you're refering to in your thread is Bobby on drums, Matt & Lisa on keys, Dez on guitar and Mark on bass. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Oh and the song Let's Work, especially the 12' is sho nuff bangin'. The line "I'll fuck u in the cemetery, I don't care." When I was a kid, at that time, I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever heard anybody say in a song. EVER! Besides the title track, Let's Work is the best song on that album to me. Out here in So. Cali, in late 81, early 82, the top black radio station in So. Cal 1580 KDAY wore this song OUT! When the 12' was released, they played that too, editing out the curse words of course. This was ALWAYS a crowd favorite when I seen him on the Controversy & 1999 tours. Dez's guitar solo on this live was always entertaining. As some on here can certainly vouch for this: I always loved Dez. But there were times when I saw them live playing this song, during Dez's solo, I would be like "Damn...what song is Dez playing to?!" But yeah, DEFINATELY, Let's Work is an all time fave of mine from Prince. The Rude Boy days....there was nothing like it. [Edited 5/24/09 23:21pm] SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. [Edited 5/24/09 23:21pm] And that intro to the song is definately hard and edgy. It reminds me of a few things on The Time's debut album. Like "Get it up, get it up. I'll fuck u all night." Then P would switch it up from "I'll fuck u all night" to "I'll WORK u all night." Also the same shouting styled vocals on The Time's "After Hi School" with the "Hey U...get a job u punk...Hey U!...Hey U" is all in the same vein as the "Let's Work!...Let's Work!" intro.
