Obviously many lovesongs were about Mayte, but not so sure about TMBGITW.
At the time of its release it was rumoured to be about first Ophelie Winter,then Nona Gaye, then Vanessa Marcil and then Mayte. When Prince and Mayte got engaged it simply became this media tagline that she was his "most beautiful girl in the world" While married to Mayte, Prince himself replied, when asked who it was written for, that it was written for "all women". I'm sure if it really was for Mayte, he would have said that at the time. (It was early on in their marriage). It was during the the same Q & A he said that Forever In My Life was written for Susannah. By the way, a few people have mentioned Adore - Prince has also said that Adore was for Susannah. | |
