LF might be back in top 20 this week (actually number 23)

LotusFlower may have a little life left in it. The CD is up to Number 12 on Hits Daily Double with about 69% of sales reported. Sales so far are 19,312 an increase from last week.

No. That's the increase in sales from last week 2 this week.

It's amazing how low numbers like that can get you a spot on the Billboard Top 20. I know I never would have thought that this would happen 10 even 5 years ago. With that said, it's great that Prince might get back to the Top 20. It's good no matter how you cut it.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Okay, I jumped the gun. It jumped up four spots back into the Top 25. 18% sales increase is nice though.

27 23 PRINCE NPG 20,824 +18%

This may have already been discussed but has anybody looked close as the LF display at Target. Says something about being displayed until 5/10/09. It'll be interesting to see if they start taking the displays in the stores down in the coming weeks and, of course, that will affect sales.

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. It's great that Prince is getting some publicity by placing high on the charts, but the actual sales numbers which correspond to certain places on the charts are so much lower than they used to be and the difference is even more pronounced as you go down the chart. A number 1 album might sell less, on average, than number 1 albums of yesteryear, but there are still, occasionally, No. 1s that sell really big. The difference between No. 20 now and No. 20 five or ten years ago pretty staggering since people just don't by albums like they used to.

Billboard needs to come up with some metric to combine all sales of an aritst's product for a particular album - CD sales, full album downloads, single downloads, etc., anything where the consumer actually pays for the product, and THEN create a Top 100 list. That would be interesting.

Digital album sales (full album downloads) are factored into the charts. That doesn't help Lotusflow3r though because it's not available at iTunes or Amazon, and Prince won't release the sales numbers for lotusflow3r.com

Digital single sales are also counted, for the Hot 100 (the singles chart). It would be a mistake to combine single sales and album sales...When Doves Cry's sales reflected the popularity of the song, not the album. One can drive the other but they measure different things. Flo Rida has sold nearly 10 million singles but not even 1 million albums yet; he's not an albums artist and the numbers reflect that.
