Which Prince-Guitarist has contributed most to his live-sound? my choice:
1 Dez Dickerson (great solos!) 2 Wendy the others weren't very prominent in the mix, sometimes barely audible: 3 Miko Weaver 4 Mike Rev.Scott 5 Levi Seacer Jr. ...don't know about Kat Dyson? @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I think Miko was pretty prominent during the Sign/Lovesexy tours. I had the audio boot of the Dortmund 88 show for years before I saw the video, and I remember being quite surprised to see that some of the parts I thought were Prince were actually played by Miko! I agree that Mike and Levi haven't had as much presence though. Somewhere around the time that Prince decided he had to keep up with hip-hop, his use of rhythm guitar nearly disappeared, and that's been obvious in his live shows as well.

Wendy. Mike Scott. Sonny.
I know Sonny doesn't play guitar for Prince, but his bass playing really helped push Prince into some great music. It was synergy too among all those NPG guys. It's why "Dreamer" was the stand out performance on Leno.

Miko on the Luvsexy Tour.
The reason I say this is they were doing a wider variety of P's material. And he was holding down the parts we wanted to hear P play while P was spinning, twirling, and jumping on beds. And they sounded great while they both played funky stuff together like the Nude Tour version of '1999'. Next would be Dez for that Ron Wood/Keith Richards vibe he brought to the band. Miko all the way.
His rhythm playing was most similar 2 Prince's, and right there in the groove. "He's a musician's musician..."

I have 2 go with 3 guitarists
Dez Dickerson Wendy Melvoin Mico Weaver They were guitarists when Prince's sound was definate, it was Purple Music and you could just play guitar or be the most spectacular guitarist, you had to play Prince music Dez brought a hard rock sometimes metal playing to the live shows which Prince encorporated into his sound That's why I love Dirty Mind live during the 1999 Triple Threat Tour Dez was straigh up hard rock, it was his image too and I love what he brought 2 Uptown Wendy picked it up from there, playing on Purple Rain/live was probably one his top 5 albums with an abundance of electric guitar, Lovesexy is there too. Wendy had a ethereal chords weither accoustic or electric to her playing as well which stood out along with that psychedelic sound that became noticable on songs like Paisley Park and the Middle Eastern sound heard in songs like Strange Relationships Anotherloverholenyohead Prince & the Revolution studio session of Desire or Screams of Passion anywone... Mico said in an interview that he studied Prince's music so when it came that he joined the camp he played Prince's sound. Mico is quirky a bit like Prince, he had a good rhythm guitar playing and was a good backing guitarist on electric guitar during the SOTT/Lovesexy shows, of course he played guitar live on Sheila E's set as well:Strawcake Shortberry is probably one of her more guitar driven songs In my opinion these 3 really had character, you wanted to know more about them, and Prince obviously had a free vibe with them No other guitarist since them have I felt of seen Prince really connect with live. They all played guitar that sounded and felt like Purple Music. I would love to see/hear Dez on stage with Prince again, like he does with Wendy I would love 4 Mico to become a member of the Family 2.0 since he did play on the Family album and I believe he did perform with them at their 1st Avenue show

I thought the same thing. I think Miko still plays the closest to Prince's guitar playing, out of all the former bandmembers, esp on Do Me Baby from the Nude Tour. Mico, I suspect. Prince had a great guitar double in Mico: tone, phrasing, runs -- you name it.

I like Levi, but more as a bass player
Dez was good, but kind of a duplicate for Prince's own style. Maybe Miko, but some of that is just the band he was a part of was great. I think Wendy is my least favorite guitar player but added more to his music than any other guitar player. My Legacy
