superbowl was LAME!! man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

superbowl was LAME!! Superbowl LOOKED good, but the sound was horrible. The songs were okay. OMG The Grammy's 1985. AMAZING stuff. He was SO in his element at that time, loving everything and everyone around him. Such a fun performance.

if its best performance overall, none of these mentioned come close at all! TV performance...hmm, cant think right now....he relies to much on the guitar on TV. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

It was his best televised performance for a MASS audience.
Meaning, I liked "Daddy Pop" on Arsenio better, but I am a hardcore fan. This was a perfect Prince presentation for Joe Six Pack and the kids. "New Power slide...."

Unfortunately, I havent seen that many of his TV appearences. The Superbowl is the best Ive seen by a long chalk. Might be for personal reasons of course, as Im a huge footie fan....and I was praying Prince would rip it up so my footie fan buddies could see how great he is. And he didnt let me down. Best Superbowl halftime in the sports history? By a long chalk!
The fact that he played on through the pouring rain, the extra effect it added to Purple Rain, the little purple lights, the fact he added Best of You to the line-up (one of my fave songs ever) was heart stopping. I could have done without the cheesy marching band, but other than that, perfect. And then he came to London...heaven!! www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

One of my favorite performances is when he did Endorphinmachine on a French TV show.
He completely ripped it!!! He was angry, and it was awesome!!! JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

[b]Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Princes' rendition of George Harrisons' 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' You are so right...rrhof made believers out of a WHOLE bunch of people, including Tom Petty, Dhani Harrison, etc. Prince showed that night, as Bob Dylan had called it back in 1987, that there was "a giant in him just dying to come out." It was Prince's performance that made Petty want to do the gig the following year.

Prince was definetly showing them what he was made of during the Superbowl performance, but back in the day when asked even he said that Arsenio Hall was his best tv performance to date.

For me I felt that it was the best,
but then again I haven't seen been around to see all those performances mentioned.

Rock N Roll Hall of Fame bests it but Superbowl comes in second in my opinion.
The reason being is all of the other televised performances were great in their own right. Especially some from the 80's such as The American Music Awards 'Purple Rain' performance. But the Hall of Fame took me by surprise. Im not talking about his three songs he did, but the solo he did on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I thought Prince was kind of over or lets say ordinary by that time. He had done several Leno performances, and I had seen him recently on Hit n Run and ONA's shows. But watching the Gently Weeps performance threw me off, I was not expecting it. When he fell back onto his guitar tech, it was a great (planned) move, worthy of any splits, of any Darling Nikki speaker hump, any slide under Cat and tear her panny drapes off with his teeth move to me. It was that simple yet that brilliant. And the solo itself. Heaven. I teared up watching it. I thought the ending of Alicia Key's speech was exciting enough to get me hyped but this one was off the charts. I teard up and wanted to call everyone I know up to state what I had just witnessed. Plus to see him onstage with....Tom Petty and jeff Lynne? 'Whoah'(Neo). I would never have believed it. Of course we can re-run these performances and critique them until the magic of the performance moment is lost, but the very first time this was shown (which is what counts afterall), I had actually been rejuiced for life for this guy. It was that emotional to me. Now, the The Superbowl....

Seeing him along side other musical legends like Tom Petty was a dream come true. If I had one wish in Prince's career, it would be that he took his own advice from the Black Album and never gave rap (or the rap/hip hop movement) any respect. Once he fell in that web his creativity was never the same. Funk, Rock and Old School R&B laid the foundation for his 80's Genius... Hip Hop dug his musical grave! Maybe you need to find better things to spend your money, as I (and plenty others) have an excellent version of that performance on an external hard drive.
