A while ago I watched Purple Rain 4 like the umpteenth time. After that I read the original script of PR that's floating around the Net..just started 2 think: in the end analysis, who do u think would have been the better choice: Vanity or (the girl who got the part) Apollonia?

Which one of them would u rather have seen?

Vanity because I think their love scenes would have been More Intense and Real, She was More his Type, Her singing was Better and she was Hot! Appolonia was Good in the Film and all,but just seemed too Mature ,Sophisticated, not his Style for the Movie. She is a Beautiful Woman and all,but Prince well he neede a more Earthy Vanity Type for the Role. I remember Appolonia saying Vanity Wore Boots and she wore High Heels. I remember Appolonia saying in not so Many Words she brought Class to Vanity6 and you Know Something Apples? That's why it Stunk because you weren't DiRRTY Enough!! Vanity Was DiRRRTY!!! Prince was Dirrty you seemed like Hollywood and All. Appolonia was like a Busty Dancer from HOLLYWOOD. Not a Big Deal,but She's Beautiful and all,but the singing and her Clothing Style Sucked. Anyway,still think she's Cool and all,but Vanity would have made the Movie much more Realistic and probably Dirtier. Vanity was Gritty. Remember Appolonia Was a Stand-In for Vanity and Shelia E was his Girlfriend also. Prince goes for that Swarthy kinda type and Petite is right. Earthy,is what it's about Denise a Capricorn,Mani a Virgo. Prince with the Earth signs. Went with Fire Shelia Sexual and Mayte Sexual. Air Susannah. Appolonia is a Leo which means Leader-Strong just not Right with Prince.

A threesome would have been the coolest... why only one or the other... he could handle both!

I think Vanity would have brought a more smoldering sexuality to the role. But Apollonia has a girlish innocence that is what made her a good balance between Prince and Morris Day.

Don't get me wrong Purple Rain didn't stink ;in fact it's my favorite Prince film but Vanity was much more a Sexual,Sensual Presence than Appolonia. Both Women were and still are Beautiful in Different ways. Vanity was Sex. Why this Woman blew it in Hollywood with Drugs is the Biggest Mystery Known to Men. Crazy???

If Vanity was in PR, it would have been a whole 'nother level. P and Vanity were the Dick and Liz of the rnb -punkfunk, MPLS scene. It would have been so great and things would have been terribly different in the movie. The whole atmosphere...Vanity was the ultimate and had a different attitude then Apollonia.

You said RD! She messed up Big time with that one and what didn't she Think Prince was gonna be a Big Hit or something? I Can't blame him for being Mad as she left him when Production was on. He had to get a Replacement fast and for the album because of a Contract with Warners. Appolonia was a Good replacement But Vanity made a Huge Mistake by Leaving. It got 3 stars and all and Prince did well,but the movie would have been more Sensual as Prince and Vanity would have been more Down and Dirty and her singing was Much better and Maybe the 2nd album would have had the Shelia E songs as Shelia may Never have been in Prince's eyes but since I love Shelia it's all good with that. Vanity wanted to be a Big STAR HUH? WEll,why not with Prince? Supposedly a Fight over $$$. She wanted more Money! Who Knows unless she or he tells us. They didn't get along so well very Passionate it was Rumoured. Still they Complemented each other quite well Indeed. Will Prince go back to his Swarthy/Dirty Ways Maybe just Cleaner? Will he Stay in the Light? Questions???

I would of liked for Vanity to play the part in Purple Rain, because Apollonia was just acting to be like Vanity replacement.

Yes,they definitely should have left the script as is,now if somehow they have that somewhere and can release it with the added footage now That would be the Bomb!

I think she had a problem with it because at the time he was seeing Susan and Jill and she had to be around them every day, which caused a lot tension, so if she would've stayed Vanity6 wouldn't have been toghether for long anyway. She didnt get along with Brenda either. Plus she got on Matt Fink's nerves too (which isn't realy relevent, just something I thought I'd throw in).

Vanity for sure! I met her in 1986 and she is even more beautiful in person. Purple Rain would have just been TOTALLY on another level.
