Not everybody writes, produces, and composes their own music. That's just the way of the music industry

And that's not the same Webster Michael used to carry around either.

not in my world, and that's the only one that matters. i repeat, sweet little michael has to bring in musicians and producers in order to put out what few people would call good music. let's face it, jackson is a slave to the "hit-making machinery" joni mitchell (a REAL artist) sang about so many years ago!!! winner, winner, chicken dinner!!! i like my chicken baked, not fried
doesn't matter, though, does it? Mike has sold way more albums than Prince can ever hope to, so it don't matter who Mike uses in the studio for his records. sounds like petty jealousy from the Prince camp with all the negative talk about MJ.

I heard Dirty Diana the other day for the first time in years.
It has a catchy hook, a 'Lolita' type of theme to it,
and the overall effect is that it reminds me of Darlin Nikki.

This is the 3rd time I've heard songs of this nature that
reminds me of Darlin Nikki.

Is this song ever credited for influencing songs out there.

The parallels of Darlin Nikki and Dirty Diana seem to suggest this.
Of course, where Darlin Nikki can be viewed as metaphore, as Prince
wrote much of his music then to be interpreted on different levels,
Dirty Diana is more or less a silly, fictional, and utterly unconvincing
sexual admission by MJ. And it's catchy hook, and great vocals
still are encased in a rather sterile package despite it's theme.

Anyone know if Darlin Nikki influenced this song or others?

You know I find it ironic that in the video MJ has a guitar player that has a siluhette(sp) of Wendy (guy guitar player I KNOW but think about it) in like PR costume like in Prince and the Revolution Live. Interesting thought Imago. Rather the songs are a spin off of each other or not intentionaly or coincedence freaky IMHO.

If this is the case you might want to go back and watch Purple Rain again and see Prince sporting one glove during the live performances.

Compare the amount of material on the MJ Rare & Unheard disk to "The Work."

Ummm, actually Michael plays drums, piano, and I believe guitar. He also has composed, written, and produced some GORGEOUS music. (Read the linear notes, for starters.) Michael writes MOST of his music. He's definitely no Prince when it comes to being a MUSICIAN, but he is definitely a musical genius and a great songwriter. And, I wouldn't call him a slave to the "hit-making machinery" either. Some of his best songs could NEVER be on the radio. "Little Susie" on the radio? Umm, no. lol

And, finally, USUALLY (Quincy and Teddy Riley--back then--are exceptions) when Michael brings in people to work on music, they just mess things up. The songs Michael does himself are almost always the best.

I can tell u aren't a fan at all, or else u would know this. smile But, it's all good. I don't care that u aren't at all. Just know what u are talking about if u wanna try to call someone out. smile

I dunno who said it, but u really can't compare Michael to Prince. I mean, u can, but it's kind of ridiculous.

For one, Michael has written HUNDREDS of songs that fans have never even heard about. I'm pretty sure Prince has probably written a lot more, but his fans also know of a lot more unreleased stuff. Also, Michael is a perfectionist, to a fault of himself. People are working with him now, and they say what's frustrating is that he doesn't like ANYTHING they present. If it's not timeless, he won't touch it. I respect that a lot. However, I also respect Prince's approach. He seems to just create, create, create like a madman and will release albums that aren't even cohesive as albums. But, I think it's incredible that he has so much music in him. God, I wish I had that gift like he does. But, to compare the two is like comparing oranges and apples. They are both geniuses, but very different in their approach.

sexy--excuuuse me, I don't mean to be rude, but u are an idiot. first off this isn't the michael jackson fan site. number two, artists do not have "linear" notes--it's LINER notes. I can't help but shake my head at your illogical comments---but, hey, you ARE a woman. You mention that michael plays all these instruments, but that clearly doesn't mean he plays them WELL--certainly no way as well as Prince. you mention when michael brings in outsiders, they usually mess things up. Well, little girl, u are crazy. Quincy Jones produced Thriller, did he not??? It IS mj's best-selling album, right???? Hmmm, quincy didn't mess anything up, did he??? And slash didn't mess up whatever the hell song he played on, and steve stevens didn't mess up "dirty diana," did he, now?
I'm defending Prince, as this IS his fansite. One last comment: if michael is as prolific as you say he is, why doesn't he hole himself up in the studio by himself and put out a quality cd????? I know: he HAS to rely on people like Akon and Will.I.Am to come up with something viable. Prince looks at it this way: if he can't do it himself, it's not worth doing...Act II coming up?????
