Mac Arthur Park Suite.

Oh my gosh. This song. So many memories.

When iTunes hit the Windows platform, I went shopping for songs. (It was around the time Pepsi was having the contest with winners under the yellow caps.) One of the first songs I bought was the 17 minute version of "The MacArthur Park Suite". I have fond memories of the song itself, plus "Heaven Knows". They were just so awesome to a little white kid in Oklahoma City in the 70's. I was a fan from then on.

Thanks for reminding me of this one. I'm going to go listen to it. ALL 17 DAMN MINUTES. haha

thumbs up! It seemed like such a serious song, when I was 10. falloff

I would track it down tonight, too, but it's a school night... lol

I LOVE that song. The MacArthur Park Suite is just pure heaven when I listen to this. Donna Summer knows she's the bomb!

Honestly, I still don't know what the hell she's talking about in that song. But I love it anyway.

MacArthur Park:

Funny lyrics: "someone left the cake out in the rain, I don't think I can take it, cuz it took so long to bake it, and I've never have that recipe again",

sounds strange, I still heart this great Donna Summer- song.... lol

And what's with the sweet green icing? Were green cakes en vogue back in the 70's? I never had a green cake for a birthday growing up. Did I miss the trend, or was it all a dream in Ms. Summer's mind? lol

The song is part of cantata, which also contained, "By The Time I Get To Phoenix and "Wichita Lineman". All three songs are a continuation of the same story.

You just named some of my favorites from that album. And don't forget "Our Love". That one was years ahead of it's time.

That was me. I stole it from VH1's "I Love The 80s" a few years ago. I can't remember but I think it was Sheila E. that said it. lol

9. Man Like You
10. Sweet Romance
11. Dance Into My Life
12. Rumour Has It
13. I Love You
14. Happily Ever After

And "On The Radio" - a great compilation,
the way songs are edited / mixed into each other is great imo, from fall 1979:

3. Try Me, I Know We Can Make It
4. I Feel Love
5. Our Love
6. I Remember Yesterday

Tell me about it. They say first impressions are a motherfucker. Well, this performance was the very first time I ever laid eyes on Prince. First of all, I didn't know if he was black or white. Then, I thought, he must be a "foreigner" (I was only in the 7th grade lol ). Then, the next thing was, I had been called the word "queer" and "fag" for a few years and never knew what it meant. Of course I asked my mother what those words meant and naturally she said...."don't listen to those bastards, you can't be gay because you're not grown" but I kinda put two and two together and could figure out that these names were coming at me for being "sissy-like". Anyway, I may have not known what race Prince was right off the bat but looking at that appearance and those gestures, I knew I was looking at what I was being called by my classmates. And all through the years, I don't care what anybody says or Prince himself, I know a fellow whore when I see one. First impressions are definately a motherfucker. lol
