yes I know there is a vault if not more than one but that picture does not do it justice unless that is from the clip of Ingrids actual visit into the vault.

I think I have footage of Pauly Shore walking past the vault on his tour through Paisley Park so I know it exists

The Vault surely has well over 500 songs in various stages of completion, albums, and video footage. CD

Since Prince is focused on his core fanbase for the most part nowadays with an attentive ear to what they want, we should make it clear the desire for some of this archived material! foodnow

Didn't Prince say, back in the 90s, that he would record a song each day from then on? Even if he recorded one song per week, that 500 would be not just songs, but hours of unreleased material.

I questioned the guides during celebration one.

They asked Prince how many unreleased albums were in the vault and complete: Albums complete with track order and artwork finished = around 35. But that didn't include various songs that were not yet on an album(or didn't fit on any albums) and tons of live material which includes about everything.

Rumor in early 2000 was a "Vault 2" was being built.

Yes, i believe reading a quote from Karen Krattinger, one of his former PAs, in The Vault or DMSR books stating that he had a vault and there was tons of material in there. She also said there were music videos for hundreds of songs that never saw the light of day, and that he makes videos that sometimes go straight to the vault.

That is sort of misleading. 75% of Prince's videos are live performances.

Kevin Smith corroborates that claim about music videos (to a certain extent).

Transcribed from 'An Evening with Kevin Smith', in which he talks about the time he was in Paisley Park to shoot footage for Prince :

... and Stephanie, who was kind of my chaperone all week wasn't even there any more. And I said to her before she left, I was like, what eh.. This is the last day, what are we going to do, am I cutting this thing? Is somebody else cutting it? And she's like, They've been cutting it already, he used some of the footage at his show in St. Paul last night. I'm like, get the? really? I mean, I, I feel so useless, like, I'm sitting around trying to maintain my composure and stuff's been already cut? I was like, that's great, so you'll have a cut of the documentary done, like, next week. And she was like, yeah but I wouldn't count on seeing it really. And I was like, why? She's like, well, frankly a lot of the stuff never sees the light of day. And I was like, what? What do mean stuff never sees the light of day? She's like, I'm his producer right, I've produced fifty music videos for him. I'm like, that's awesome, which ones? And she's like, you've never seen 'em. And I was like, how, how've I never seen them? And she's like, 'cause they're for songs you've never heard. And I was like, well, where are they? She's like, he puts 'em in the vault. And I was like, for what? And she's like, I dunno. (audience laughs). And I was like, when you say music videos, is just him on stage playing? She's like, No, fifty fully produced music videos with costumes and sets and everything. And she's going, money was spent. And I was like, and they've never been seen on MTV or, or anything? BET? VH1? She was like, No, he just puts 'em in the vault.

It's not misleading. Truly there are a lot of videos (besides live performances) that are either promos or just scrapped that never see the light of day.

I saw the vault at Celly 1 but I wondered if it was a stage-prop built for the occasion - or at least constructed AFTER the vault rumours were commonplace.

OTOH, during that celly he kept running into a room behind the shop and coming back with video-tapes of performances from all different periods which he then played on the screens as background to the DJ's grooves...

Is it the one pictured in the chaos&disorder booklet?

The question should be, what does it contain? I doubt there's so much more that hasn't gotten out already. Sure, there's a lot of stuff post 2000 in it, but I think most of the 80's and 90's material is out already.

I would think most songs he played and produced on his own, or with little help from engineers made it straight to the vault. Whereas, the more hands involved in a project -like soundboard techs or bandmembers- made it to bootlegs.

If Prince hasn't waved a gigantic magnet over the tapes of his old stuff, he probably has a clause in his will to burn the contents upon his passing. Or maybe he's willed the contents' release to any heirs he might have.

Whatever the contents, I'm unconvinced they amount to the musical paradise a lot of his fans expect it to be. For every "Train"-level gem there could be 10 "Dig U Betta Dead"-level mistakes.

There are likely hundreds of songs he would never put out, but also hundreds that he would put out but didn't fit on an album.
My gut tells me he will allow most all these songs or 'crystal ball' type albums to be released one a year after his passing.

I do have the feeling Prince is out to something. Something we may not know for a very long time in the future. MAybe it's about his will, maybe he's just.... oh, wait, I get it; he's building up another parallel career for the future: when he's gone, that material will be used to start the kingdom of brande new superstar that will go by the name of Prince, or not, and will have Prince's face and attitudes and all that we're familiar with.

U may think I'm fucking with words and imagination but seriously, for what we know, he could be really planning on doing this.
