Dead On It vs. Face Down Prince's rap-style in the trax "Dead On It" from The Black Album & "Face Down" from Emancipation strikez me as similar. Which song do U like better?

They don't sound the same to me at all.
'Dead on It' actually has a deliberately quirky goofiness to it that's meant to convey a sense of mockery. Face Down is industry catchup fodder.

Face Down. Love the video. Wasn't he still cussing, then? Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

Im torn because while Face Down has that god awful "face down" chorus, it has one of his best lines, the cold blooded "for those who know the number and dont call....fuck all y'all"
But DOI isn't really much of anything, its endearing because its part of the classic era.

Face Down I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Dead On It is a piece of shit. Face Down is as well but a smaller piece.

"Dead On It" is my choice! - I don't know why you guys seem to dislike this great song,
I didn't liked it at first listening, it took a while for me, maybe you guys just have to listen some more, I consider the whole Black Album a classic, the track I like the least is the instrumental 2 Nigs United... Face Down is good, but the production is too much plastic, too synthetic imo. Shubidua... dead on it [Edited 5/16/09 0:50am] Prince 4Ever.

face down is the shit, for sure, but gotta go with dead on it, just cuz it's on the black album and that's my shit . "my bed's a coffin...dracula ain't got shit on me..." life's a bitch, but god forbid the bitch divorce me...

Face Down
Didn't like it much at first, but the live version on the NYC tape, and the 12" mixes converted me.

"Face Down" is every bit as parodic as "Dead On It". Better actually, since it's not as direct attack against rap / hip-hop (see kids: back in the old days we used to call it "rap", in case you were wondering).

I like dead on it but prefer face down. RIP

strangely, they are both songs that i never really liked, and not just because they're supposed to be in the 'rap' genre.
if i had to choose, i'd say 'Dead On It' [Edited 5/16/09 3:04am] [Edited 5/16/09 3:04am] Snare drum pound on the 2 & 4

Face Down
Dead On It seems like he was trying to make a joke, but it just came off really corny "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Face Down - Prince expressing himself in a hip-hop style. It's funny and his anger and pain come through loud and clear. The music is funky, though a bit polished and studio slick.
Dead On It - Prince mocking the hip-hop culture to a wicked beat. I used to hate the song because I didn't get the joke. It took a while for me to realize that this is Prince at the peak of his powers showing his bad-ass greatness. This is when Prince was ahead of his audience. To this day folks still don't get it. His vocals are relaxed, his timing is perfect, the joke is hilarious and the music as they say on the Black Album is 'slammin'.

IMO, both are awful songs. Face down is the lesser of two evils.

Dead On It seems like he was trying to make a joke, but it just came off really corny He's never been able to pull off the hip hop sound. He improved by the time around Come but it still didn't work for him Dead On It sounds like he missed the plot completely "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
