I think I might wait to get Prince....and that's only because I have most of the songs there on other CDs.

As of right now, I'm going to pick either ATWIAD, TRC, or prince

mehhh whatever, he has done enough damage to his reputation the last 20 years that i dont think it matters any more one way or another.
As a serious artist he is just a curiosity now.

He will always be know for the work between 80-87, all the other stuff is just footnotes of the downfall of a talented artist.

Yeah, you definitely need Love Symbol. Also, I'd recommend The Gold Experience, especially because there's nothing from there on any compilations. It's deleted, though, so you might wanna check out a used record store or online.

Stevie Wonder has done nothing new or interesting since the 70´s. His reputation as an artist must be zero by now.

Why do those albums look funny?
I have them in either a flat square format, about 12" in size. Sometimes in fold-out shape. Inside is a mostly black disc of circa 12" diameter which holds the audio.
Also I have them in those boxes which hold a 5 inch disc with a mostly silver/aluminium looking appearance. They need a different machine to play.

These albums posted here are very different. Why is that?

In my opinion...

Around The World In A Day: '80s Prince And The Revolution as you would expect, but with a psychedelic twist. It's not the huge leap from Purple Rain as some might have concluded. B-Sides and remixes for this album are some of his finest.

prince: Quantity over quality. Contrived dance tracks, paint-by-numbers arrangements and uninspired lyrics. A concept album by proxy. The standout tracks are on the Hits packages.

The Rainbow Children: Insanely divisive, arguably mean-spirited lyrics. Marilyn Manson has pissed off less people with his prose. Musically jazzifunkifusirockingly genius. Diary Of A Mad Jehovah, indeed.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Track 17, Disc 1: My Name Is Prince (Single Edit) – 4:03

There is only one version of the Prince Ultimate 2-Disc Set.

If you want some true funk before he became a mega-star then get the greatest cd ever - 1999. This has the best funk ever on it.

Threads like this make me appreciate the fact that I've been a fan since 1983.

I could never imagine trying to go back and pick and choose which albums to purchase and in which order.

It would be an exhasting task trying to catch up on 30 years of prolific music from the man.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
