I realise the former is a ballad and the latter a kind of slow gospel number so one is sexy and the other reverential and godly. But to my mind they have a similar sound. Obviously they were both recorded during a similar period in his career. But both are now firmly among my all time favourites.
Also these two tracks seem to reflect the two conflicting sides of his personality Still Would Stand All Time represents the sacred And Scandalous is the profane And both to my mind are profoundly beautiful. I agree with you for the "profane" part... but what comes immediately on my mind for the "sacred" one is "Anna Steisia"... I'll die in your arms under the cherry moon...

I just listened to it (first time in at least 15 years, I'd bet), and it was pretty much as I remembered it: an OK-ish, along-for-the-ride sex ballad.
I'd always thought some of the chord changes seemed a little off to my ears on this track. I also thought Vicki Waiting sounded a little unfocused on some of the choruses as well, which always played into my impression that this was a rather quickly dashed-off album. I'm no muso by any means, but I'd always thought that this album felt a bit unfinished musically in spots.

It is really good. I like the normal soundtrack version not so much the suite (which is ridiculous, imo).

Pink Cashmere dude, Pink Cashmere! I think 'Adore' is great, but over-rated. I think after Scandalous this kind of ballad was pretty 'phoned-in' though. Insatiable is almost a carbon-copy.

While I don't believe "Adore" is overrated, I think you're spot on with the carbon copy thing between "Scandalous" and "Insatiable". For years I had the hardest time keeping them apart in my head, and remembering what song went on what album. Then I realized..I just never cared about either. I had "Joy In Repetition" and "The Question of U" in between, and that more than made up for it.

i LOVE xanadu. Am I a bad gay cuz I've only seen it once? I love the music though. I'm a huge ELO fan, so the meshing of Ms. Newton-John (who I saw on concert a couple of years ago FINALLY, and loved) and Jeff Lynne's production was most excellent.

Soothing, dark, creepy and sweet at the same time. Very simple, but immensely strong. Not the best, but surely comes close.
To me, it's the Prince ballad that says goodbye to the 80s.

I agree. SLow Love is great. Obviously gets overshadowed by Adore. But you can't let Adore overshadow every single ballad he ever wrote. Scandalous is clearly sexier than Adore. And so is Slow Love. The best of the modern era I would have to say is Somewhere here on Earth. I'm testing postive 4 the funk

I think you almost have to consider the era each was written and performed. Prince has certainly become more sophisticated with his sound as he has aged. I love the sounds of Scandelous, Slow Love, Adore, and Insafiable. But modern day sounds, I would have to go to Somewhere Here on Earth as top favorite. I like how he has matured. Prince's Sarah
