I've been a fan so long, been amazed so long. I know that we all have a tendency to think "who the hell does Prince think he is" but on the other hand, the man is, well...special.
i dunno. i've always hoped if something like that were to happen, i'd be able to acknowledge him with the common respect i'd have for anyone and not act all starstruck, but when you're a fan of someone for years and you've invested so much awe and admiration in someone's work for a long time, it would be hard not to fawn over him. i think part of it would be how he approaches his fans. what was that oprah quote they used on "30 rock" recently - "you teach people how you want them to treat you"? would prince treat fans more like, "come on now, just treat me like a regular human being" or would he be more like "damn STRAIGHT i'm a superstar icon pop idol, now get on that knee and kiss the ring, bitchez!" i dunno. i'm awkward around celebrities anyway, even if i find myself around a famous person i'm not personally crazy about. how do you make casual conversation with someone you just met when you read about their sex life on dlisted the night before, you know? eww. When I was near Prince...I was not feeling starstruck by a great singer and musician. It was being near an adorable man. Prince just took my breath away. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I chose not to believe a couple of years ago after much soul-searching. It finally dawned on me that I'd never been given the choice to not believe. The fear and superstition that had surrounded me for over thirty years had done nothing but trouble me. I then happened upon a guy called Richard Dawkins and it was like having the cloth pulled away from my eyes. I was free at last. Or at least shown that I could be. Years of conditioning to believe in a god are not easily wiped away even when realising the truth that there is no evidence or reason to support one.

I like the way you haven't said that there definitely isn't a god. Even Dawkins doesn't say that, just that there most probably isn't one. I don't believe in a god of any description but cannot prove there isn't one. What gets my goat is when people say, there definitely isn't a god, or there definitely is one. Either way is impossible to prove, it's just what you believe.RIP

Anyway, I appreciate the non-believers on Prince.org and in this thread. It creeps me out how culty people get on here sometimes. Thanks guys. Also, I can't believe that I have forgotten to say this, but i have bumped into Prince on a few occasions. I can say that I did not lose my shit. I'm from Minneapolis, so he was around sometimes. My reaction to him was more about respecting his privacy and not trying be a goon. He may be special, but we are all special, honey.

There's plenty. People chose to not see it, and that's fine. But just because someone doesn't believe in something, doesn't mean it suddenly doesn't exist. It's like not believing in divorce. It still happens, and it's still real.

I'm smart enough to know there's a God. With all respect, you are not. There is no evidence. As long as people with faith acknowledge that they might be wrong, it's ok for me. But people who insist they know the truth are simply crazy in my eyes.

I didn't cringe because Prince usually does well with Tavis. I did find the fawning to be rather odd since Tavis hasn't behaved that way with Prince in the past. I actually have looked up and Prince was standing right beside me but I didn't trip out and I think he appreciated that. Myself and a couple of other orgers chatted with him briefly and that was it. I have to admit that once he left I was like this... Is Prince special? In some ways, yes but I could say the same about myself and many others. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

No disrespect, but you have no clue what you're talking about. You don't know me, nor obviously if there is a God. I, however, do know. There is no evidence. As long as people with faith acknowledge that they might be wrong, it's ok for me. But people who insist they know the truth are simply crazy in my eyes.
Wrong about what? It seems you want people to admit they MIGHT be wrong, because it might fulfill your total lack of knowledge and belief on the subject. But do not twist the words I've spoken. I said I am smart enough to know there is a God. I never said I was smart enough to know everything about God, because I am not, and I don't. I never will. The joy is in learning. There's a world of evidence of God. And science backs it all up. People seem to dismiss that duality of science and God working together, yet both work hand in hand with a mound of evidence of each others existence. You can doubt God's existence all you wish, but you can never doubt my experiences with God. Ever.
